I recently purchased a coolmax multifunctional converter that will any internal IDE or SATA drive to be connected through usb 2.0. I was wondering if anyone had used something similar to rip and copy there originals, and was there any difference in the speed at which the programs ran such as longer run times and such with wxripper and abgx. Thanks in advance.

a while back I had a kreon ide drive hooked to a sata/ide to usb device and it worked fine for ripping using xbox back up creator. I think it took about the same time to rip as it does connected to the ide cable. I haven't noticed a difference. Takes 15 to 20 mins to rip a game to my harddrive.

Most external drives and enclosures use a similar device. I use a sony for burning and it is a usb interface. Inside the case is actually a sata drive.

I also use an external usb drive to rip. takes about 20 min with wxripper. just make sure to run through ABGX as this method doesnt copy SS correctly.

I know how to rip I was just curious if there was a dramatic time difference or not. I have looked for one of those Kreon drives and I could not find one outside of e-bay which I do not par take in. I guess I will keep looking.

honestly good luck finding on that isnt on ebay, as im pretty sure none of the drives are made anymore. only other place would be like craigslist or something like that, and i would choose ebay or that.

or you could flash a Sammy drive to xtrm0800.bin to rip or wait for ix1.6 to come out and use 0800 activation disk

ok everyone here know you can buy replacement drives for the 360 and they cost about the same as a kreon drive. so why dont more people just buy the 360 drive and use 0800 fw and rip. it would be much easier than searching for who knows how long to locate a old model drive that like you said isnt made anymore and cant be found hardly anywhere except ebay and even then ebay has started removing these from the site. I would think using a 360 drive would be far more reliable also. Even more convenient is buying a rrod unit for cheap(and locally too) and trying to fix it and if you cant just use the drive from it. you will either get the drive for the same cost and also some other parts or maybe the console can be fixed and used for a bit longer till it poops out again.

I just dont understand why people think kreon drives are a gift from heaven when there are alternatives that are even easier to locate and get your hands on.

oh and with 1.6fw on the way adding 0800 for all more drive models it is an even more viable option

I Have Done Both Methods and i Prefer the Kreon Drive Because of Ease of use and mine is ide also its internal now but i used to have it in an external case and the times are abosolutly the same or you can wait till the 1.6 i extreme firmware with 0800 and do it that way
Ive only been able to find kreon drives on ebay its the only place that sells them anymore

what is the difference in ease of use? just in the way the power connects and making it an internal drive. Im sure if i needed to i could find away to make a 360 drive internal. i have noticed there is a big difference in physical size of 360 drive vs a standard cdrom drive. wouldnt be that hard to make it fit in a pc and connect with connectivity kit inside the pc.

I have a few Kreon Samsung d162d(ide) and d163b(sata) drives, brand new never used. Anyone interested?

As far as 0800 goes, this has been around along time and we dont' need to wait for 1.6. Making a xbox samsung drive fit in a pc chassis is not difficult but rather cumbersome and not worth the effort in my opinion. First obstacle is the chassis of the xbox drive. There is legs on it that need to be removed and there is NOT any side holes to screw the drive to the pc chassis. After you logistically conquer those two feats you must power the drive. Which would include hacking up an otherwise good dvd linker (i.e xbox360 drive cable). So you cut up the xbox cable and then have to cut up a spare molex or sata power cable coming from your pc's power supply and solder the two together. Your other 0800 option is to leave the drive external and power with connectivity kit. Just not worth it in my opinion. I suggest finding a kreon as they are not exstinct at all and still available.
