I have been using devhook 0.46 and it works awesome for all of my games but I just downloaded Syphon Filter Logans Shadow and it says it needs firmware 3.71. I was wondering if there is going to be a devhook to emulate 3.71 or do I have to use the custom firmware? Also, if I do upgrade to the new custom firmware, is this permanent or can I go back to 1.50 if I don't like it? If I upgrade to the new custom firmware will it run all of the games that devhook does? Thanks for any help.

dev hook will be not releasing any more. A custom firmware is not permanent u can downgrade back to 1.5. Yes, it can run more games than the dev hook.

Actually having CFW is better than having dev. hook.
And CFW isn't permanent so it can be downgraded back...that's why when you bricked you CFW PSP it can be returned to 1.5 so you can upgrade to CFW again..

nobody uses dev hook anymore the last version of device hook is devhook 0.52 and it can only emulate 3.11

to play the most recent games you will need a custom firmware the latest custom firmware is 3.71m33-4

but you cant go straight from 1.5 to 3.71m33 ,first you need 3.52m33, then install update 4 and you will have 3.52m33-4 only then you can install 3.71m33

see this guide to install 3.52m33-4
    http://my.afterdawn.com/larrylje_redwings/blog_entry.cfm/2319

then see here to go from 3.52m33-4 to 3.71m33-4
    http://my.afterdawn.com/larrylje_redwings/blog_entry.cfm/2323

skip the first part and start where it says
"Once your at 3.52 M33-3 or M33-4 follow the guide below... "

Thanks for the help and I have a couple more questions...I have been out of the scene for awhile so bear with me...Is there a thread that describes how to switch between games with the custom firmware and I read something about a Pandora Mod Battery? Do I need this? My firmware is actually 1.50 emulating 2.71 and what are the chances of me bricking my PSP? I downgraded my PSP after I bought it and everything went smooth about a year ago? Thanks again for all of the replies...

First question - You can just go to the memory stick and play your games there.... You could have many games depending on your MS Capacity.... So you could change games whenever you want... :)
Second question - You don't actually need pandora now since your on 1.5 and not still flashing so there's absolutely low chance of you bricking your PSP :)but creating it just in case you brick your PSP is nice just make sure you have a spare battery and MS,...
Third question - As I have said there's a low chance of you bricking your PSP since your on 1.5 and not flashing themes..So you'll not have a brick ...
    :)

You guys are the sh*t...everything went as planned and I deleted all of the update files after I installed the m33-4 update...I cleaned up the memstick and removed the devhook too...It is pretty nice not having to switch games using the home and right button. All of the games work now...until update 5 will be needed...thanks again for all the help.

i had devhook 0.46 in my psp 1.5 FW, now according to your instructions, i installed CFW 3.71 m33-4, everything is working but i could not install the add-on for 1.5. iso games are playing, however, in the game menu, i see some "corrupted data". is it because i installed CFW 3.71 m33-4 before i uninstalled devhook? i never uninstalled devhook.

how did you remove devhook? just by formatting MS as directed, or used some uninstaller? my game menu now contains some "corrupted data", is it because i did not use any uninstaller but just formatted? all games are playing though in my psp, now, 3.71 m33-4. how do you switch between games now? thanks a lot.
I must thank people here for very nice guides for upgrading from 1.5 to 3.71 m33-4.

    @ mukhis

    if you already have 3.71m33-4
backup what you need from the memory stick to your pc and format the memory stick in the psp ,it will create all the necessary folders

then download the kernel 150 addon 2 ,extract and inside the 150kernel_addon2 folder is a UPDATE folder put the UPDATE folder in the GAME folder

    ms:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE

then put the 150.PBP in the root of the memory stick ,the 150.PBP doesn't go inside of any folder ,the root of the memory stick is the first window you see when you connect your psp to your pc

    ms:\150.PBP

    then run the update

i didn't use any uninstaller for device hook
i just formated the memory stick because when i was using device hook i never flashed the files, i never used the option "flash files to flash1"

did you flashed any files to use device hook?

after formating the memory stick do you still have corrupt data ?

in the guide, it tells me to put 150kernel_addon2 folder in the GAME folder, but as you said, i put the UPDATE folder (which is inside 150kernel_addon2 folder) in the GAME folder. bingo! now, i was able to see and install 1.50 add-on 2 in the game menu.
i did not flash any files to use devhook.
after formatting MS, i do not have corrupt data any more! thanks a lot.
however, my system is still showing (in spite of the installation of 1.50 add-on 2) "3.71 m33-4". is that normal?

awesome, dude, now, i am feeling to write a handy tutorial for downgrading PSP any version of firmware to 1.5 and then upgrading to CFW 3.71 M33-4 with 1.5 add-on and other tips to play ISO/CSO games in MS (what i exactly did). i know there are many tutorials in the market, but none of them are 100% correct (like what happened to my case; 1.5 add-on installation procedure was not correct, but you told me the right thing).
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS HELP!
