Hi, to start off, I obviously am new to this and need help.

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I just scimmed through all of the recent topics to see if there was anything like this but I didn't really see anything and I am short on time. Anyways...

I have a 30GB ipod video and as you might have guessed, I am trying to get dvd movies onto it.

I found a website which slightly helped, but I ran into an error at the end of what I was doing. The website is:

    http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/ipod-video.ars/5

I followed all of the directions and did everything. I got my video into itunes and it played fine in itunes. Then I put it onto my ipod, but when I played it on my ipod, the screen went blank (like it usually does before a movie because there is a slight pause) but nothing happened, then finally it went back to the movie selection menu. I don't know what I did wrong, I even tried it with two other movies.

I am getting so frustrated because this has been taking me months attempting to figure out how to do this. I joined this site and I'm trying to find someone who could give me some answers of what I did wrong, or what I can do.

Also, I don't want to try other ways because I already have tried.

    Please help!

That is a well done guide. If you followed it completly and the video is not playing in the ipod then it may be some setting in itunes.

I would give it another try paying close atention to step 8 in that guide. Its a must. Then after synching the video to the ipod in itunes. If it does not play look at settings in itunes. Maybe even default the settings in itunes and go from there.

I did try again, and i double checked each thing I did to make sure I did it right.

What setting in iTunes needs to be changed?

Keep in mind I am new to all this, and thanks for your help, I'm glad at least someone replied. More replies would be appreciated!

At this time I am not sure. I dont have an ipod. My friend does and brings it over from time to time for me to put videos on for them. It has to be hooked up to see the settings for the ipod in itunes. The next time he comes over I will open the settings window for it and take a snapshot of the settings we use. Maybe someone will have an answer for you before that time.

I will do some searching on the net for answers that might help you and post anything I may find here.

(edit) All the info I am finding seems to be saying the same things that sites various guides are.
A couple of questions to consider.
Are you able to play video from itunes from other sources on the ipod?
Are you runing the newest versions of itunes and the ipod software?

    hey Liquial

If you want to change ur approach to putting ur dvds on ur ipod, u can use this site. It has worked for me and its an easy guide to follow.

    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html

All you need is DVD Decrypter (which I already assume u have) and Videora Ipod Converter.

Ok I just tried that videora thing but I found out that the sound and video are not in sync! >=( This has happened to me before, and I guess it relates to the settings somehow!

    Some help please?

I hope I get this figured out, the video is ahead of the sound when I played the video.

    THanks!

(Also still would like to hear a reply to the nero part of this thread)

    Thanks again

    Hi Liquial,

I had exactly the same problem as you, and i was getting frustrated as hell too...

I recently found out that my Nero Recode is well out of date! even though it had option for QuickTime compatible format.. it simply didn't work.

I went to Nero website and downloaded an update for Nero 6 Reloaded and installed it.. and voila! it works using the steps listed in that website u showed us.

if you have nero 6, then u can download necessary updates from

    http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/nero-up.php

    and download update package 2

    i hope this helps

    Hi Liquial,

The guide at http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/ipod-video.ars/5 works for me.

Did you uncheck the options in step "14. Select the "Advanced" branch and make sure that the "Simple profile (QuickTime™ compatibility" box is ticked.)" that were not checked in their screenshot (though they didn't mention doing this).

    Good Luck
    Mark
