Hi there, I'm trying to use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 to complie still images into a movie. I used 3DStudio Max to create a scene and then animated it and rendered each frame of the animation as a .bmp file. The reason for this is because my desktop is old and poorly and I was expecting it to crash or overheat during the 100 and something hour render time, but it didnt! But if it had, then I would have had all the frames it had already done, saved ) The animation is 300 frames long and I wanted to compile the 300 still .bmp files it's given me into a 30 second video, at 10fps. I imported them all into Premiere, then dragged them onto the timeline and as default, Premiere sets each still to last for 6secs, which gives me a slideshow, not a video. I tried exporting the movie, then speeding it up, but the framerate is really rubbish, it looks about 2 or 3fps ( Is there an easier way to shorten the duration of each frame (without selecting each one individually)? or to speed up the video whilst still preserving the relatively smooth 10fps playback quality? Any help is much appreciated!!! Thanks
Go to FILE > IMPORT > select the first image in the sequence, then check the box at the bottom that says "Numbered Stills". Click OK. You can also right-click in the PROJECT window, select IMPORT then follow the above procedure. Hope this helps.
Hi, I am having a similar problem to the original poster. At the moment I am only on the trial version, but when I check numbered stills, it does not work. I have to physically drag over them, and thats not a problem as I can sort by name and then type, but like the original poster said its taking 6-7 seconds between each frame. I have used videomach in the past, it was basic, but it did exactly what I needed to compile frames into movie as there was seldom any additonal editing involved. Why is taking so long to advance frames? You can test it yourself with a few random images, atm I am using 50 images and I was hoping for two seconds of footage, but it's like a slideshow. I admit to being not very expereinced with video packages, but this stuff seems like it should work but its not. Would really app your help on this as it took me a lot of googling to find this thread! Thanks in advance.
maybe its the naming of my files? Not at home pc atm, but think it called a.001/a.002 etc or maybe a001/a002 etc. Really clutching straws now
ah i did actually manage to figure this one out! If you go into premiere pro's options there is a tab somewhere that has all the default settings for importing images into your project. The default duration is set to 50 seconds or something like that, obviously with slideshow applications in mind, but if you reduce this depending on your framerate you should be able to get images to string together and flow like a movie, mine did in the end ) I'll post a more accurate description once i've re-installed premiere pro again! Pav
Thanks pav, I have not looked into that, but I will and probably can do it now you told me. I just assumed it was something that should work automatically or be a lot more intuitive than it is given this is a pro package, but maybe that's its problem, its assumes to much about the user. If you get a chance I will check back over next few days and if I find out the answer I'll post my findings here. Hate it when people say they fixed their problem without sharing the info
now for a more accurate description: Select "Edit" -> "Preferences" -> "General..." The fifth setting is "Still Image Default Duration" and is set to 150 frames at default. This of course equates to 5 seconds in a 30fps movie so modify the time as you see fit! Pav
Thanks pap, worked great. I should have cheked and not assumed Adobe would do something more intuitive at the time of importing. I been spoilt by videomach. If anyone is after a similar program for free check out Videomach, I also hear virtualdub does this too. Videomach does not support mpeg 2 though so once you reach a certain level you do wander elsewhere. It's still useful though.
