hello, I just got into video editing and someone recommended me the free Avid Dv movie editor. When I try to import my .avi files to edit them, the program says that it doesn't recognize/support the format it's in. The movie I'm trying to edit is a divx rip off of a dvd. Is that why?

chances are Avid Free DV does not recognize the DivX plugin. why not just use the mpeg-2 files directly from the dvd?

Shouldn't there be like a Divx plug-in for Avid free dv?

well it all depends on what type of codec files Avid accepts, search around their website a little bit I'm sure they have a list somewhere
