I have a Dell 2200 left over for parts, and I wanted to use the LCD cable in my Acer 1640 because the LCD cable is broken. But as many may know, the port in the mother board for the LCD cable is a different size on both laptops. I was wondering if I could cut the plug at the end of the Dell LCD cable and solder the plug from the Acer LCD cable? Or is there anything I can do? Would I have to change the motherboard?

wires carry either voltage and data, so just cutting and resoldering might not work. buy the oem part from an online distributor.

True, dat. Try eBay for a good OEM job.
