I need some help to re-compress an MPEG-2 file to AVI, as I need to load it onto Subrip and the program says my file is too large. Any idea on how to recompress with VirtualDubMod?
To compress the video Select 'Video' > 'Full Processing Mode' > 'Compression' and choose (example) 'XviD', 'ok'. For Audio:'Streams' > 'Stream List', right Click on the stream and select 'Full processing mode' then 'Compression' and choose (example) 'Lame MP3' 48000, 128, stereo.'OK' > 'OK'. 'File' > 'Save As', choose 'AVI' and give it a name. XVid Codec http://www.xvid.org/ Lame MP3 codec and how to install lame codec. http://users.tpg.com.au/mtam/install_lame.htm
Thanks for your suggestions, Attar. I didn't quite get to compress the file, but probably due to the same reason I couldn't get Subrip to OCR the subtitles on the film. The reason seems to be codecs. As I couldn't get too far with VirtualDub, then I thought what might be missing that I did have on my previous setup. And I remembered I hadn't loaded all the codecs I used to. So I did, and everything is working now in Subrip. My guess is it probably does in VirtualDub too, but I didn't try it.
