using XP and unable to remove ICON from "my computor"

Hi fist of all I am a complete novice with computors hopfully learning as I go very slowly;My problem is after installing DBOX software to do DBOX's I ended up with a "locked"COM1 the PC saying COM1 in use when I want to use it.DBOX uses COM1 to programme so I removed all files in the DBOX programme but the problem still exists and when I go into my control panel the ICON is still there and I can not remove it after trying all suggestions via microsoft help page So hopfully some one will tell me how to remove the ICON and hopfully a way I can understand
