I just installed Mobile Phone Tools with a V180 and it seems to detect the phone but the software is showing that it's "Initializing" all the time. Is there a driver (possibly a modem driver) for this phone that I have to install because device manager shows my phone without a driver installed? If so where can I get this driver? Thanks.

I have also a V180 and by me it works great. All i did was to install first the MPTv1.x and the the MPT v3.40i Retail. I also installed the Motorola Handset USB Driver. Most of it ca be found on http://free.cz/motorola . The rest can be found on bittorrent sites. The installation went with no problems. First install the handset drivers than the oldest version of MPT and then the newest. If U have a live update fr MTP install it and run. It all works with probably any mini-USB cable.

OK -- I didn't install it in that order. I did MPT 2.21b and then all the updates. Then installed the USB Modem Driver before running MPT. Also don't think I tried the USB Handset drivers. Wonder if the order and the other driver makes a difference. Let me give that a shot and I'll report back. Thanks for the advice.

Ok, my kit came with version 3.11. I followed instructions I downloaded from motomodders.com, and here it goes.
Before I let MPT detect my phone I cancled and did the live update to 3.28. Then I restarted the computer and started MPT and let it detect the phone, and so on.
It worked fine for a while then it crapped out. I could still synchronize and backup but that was it. I managed to copy a few pictures and midi files.
I've reinstalled windows twice (WIN98SE) and even installed windows and MPT on another hard drive. I've tried two cables, removing the modem from the device manager, and disabling the COM ports in the BIOS setup. My phone is still detectable, but I'm wondering if it got fried somewhat?
    I have a "V180ens" IOX

What modem driver did you install? In Device Manager under Modems mine says Motorola USB Modem and is using driver version 2.1.0.1. Is there something on the phone I have to do to enable it to sync? I'm running 3.28 as well and MPT always says "Initializing" and never finds the phone.

Well. A few days ago i had also problems with MPT. I resolved it by uninstalling everything for my v180. I downloaded then the MPT Moto_3[1].23 The link was either on this forum or found on google. The tnig is that i installed this version of MTP and then the Motorola Handset USB Driver. I ran the MPT. When it wanted to detect my phone i turned it off ant then on again. The instaler detected the phone and i ran the live update. After this i could finally see the image of my phone on the desktop (earlier i didn`t). After that i ran the option "select new modem". It was either befor or after the live update - try which first. THe it all worked well. When switching to the image tools or dound tool it didn`t want to install the modem again like it did in the other versions. If someone wants this wersion of MPT e-mailme at stjops@gmail.com. I`ll either sent it via e-mail or try to post it on some server for DL`ing.

When picking the modem driver in the device driver wizard find
    Motorola
    on the manufacturers list and
    Motorola USB Modem (Motorola)(1-11-2005)
    on the models list.
In MPT, On the main menu
    goto:
    setup
    General Setup
    Communication
    Change Modem
    next
Motorola USB Modem (if it's there)
    next
"check the select from list" box (mine won't detect)
    next
    Motorola GSM (device manufacturer:)
    V180ens (Device model:)
I just think the thing's got bugs. (You can quote me on that):p

I really think that it depends od the MPT version. Coz when i tried the installtion method from other threads it worked but not as good as i tried myself (U had to install the MPT ver. 1.23 and then on it a later version - 2.xx and do the live update, when i did it it worked but not 100%. With the version 3.1.23 it was easy. I don`t remeber installing the MPTliveupdate but if it hasn`t got it than instal it.)

With Windows 98 you can look in
    C:\WINDOWS\AllUsers\ApplicationData\BVRPSoftware\
    mobilePhoneTools\LiveUpdate
    for these files
    ListOfUpdate.dat
    UpdateFile0000.Ifo
    UpdateFile0001.Ifo
right after you do the live update on-line.

    Open two explorer windows.
One to ?:\Program Files\mobile Phone Tools.
And the other to those three update files in c:\windows... or a location that you've copied them to.*
    drag and drop
    ListOfUpdate.dat
    on top of
    LiveUpdateLauncher
    in the explorer window of
    ?:\Program Files\mobile Phone Tools

    Do this to update offline.

    * you should edit the paths listed in ListOfUpdate.dat to match the location of the .Ifo files. IOX
    - check if usbser.sys is in \windows\system (XP might not need it)

I started windows(98se) in safe mode to prevent hardware detection. Then I went into the device and removed everything "USB" hosts, rootbuses, devices, everything.
When I rebooted and ran MPT it let me bring up the mobile explorer. (I was so suprised I could've pissed myself) I switched to the image atudio to be safe, and setup and picture. When I clicked transmit it was a no go.

This may work for somebody else. IOX

Ok,I had to buy a new motherboard which came with a USB 2.0 updates which has allowed MPT to work just fine. After getting my computer back together I did a fresh install of MPT and did an on-line update. The on-line update might have been key in making it work. Ian
