Hello, This is incredibly annoying, and may even override all of the benefits of an otherwise great phone. The problem is that occasionally my phone, while on standby, does some form of communication that creates a loud and annoying buzzing in anything within five feet that has speakers. This means it's awkward to use the computer, listen to the car stereo, wear a walkman, talk on a land-phone, stand near a TV, etc. Pretty damn limiting, since this affects some items that are turned off. Sometimes it will happen twice within a minute, sometimes as much as 30 minutes between blasts. Imagine someone sneaking up behind you at radom times and playing a small claxon "EEEEEEE-EEE-EEEEEEEE-EE-EE-EEEEEEE-EEE-EEEEEEEE-EE--EEEEEEEE-EEEEEEEE-EE-EEEEEEEE!!!!!!" Is this what owning a cell is about, or is there a fix somewhere? A different antenna? A lead-lined belt case? A hack? Any advice is tremendously appreciated, as it will help prevent me from throwing the f#$%ing thing out the car window...
the phone does not operate on a frequency band that would interfere with the items you listed . Maybe a trucker lives close with an extremely strong transmiter or a ham radio operator. sometimes when a trucker drives in front of my shop the cb takes out my radio till he passes out of range.the only other thing I can think of is the battery is shorting out. but I Don't think so . See if the battery is hot.
Nope, the HAM or CB radio is a good idea but it is undeniably the phone, and it's easy to demonstrate with the car stereo (or most often with the computer.) It started the day I bought the phone and only happens when it's within range; move the phone next to the monitor and it will be extra loud and make the monitor flicker faintly in tiem with the buzz, move the phone to 3ft away and it's not as loud, 5ft and it's only barely audible. Even when the computer speakers are off they will buzz. And my wife and I bought matching phones; they each can produce the effect and at the same intensity. I expect i'll figure out how to anticipate the activity that does it; then i'll tape it or something. I think once I saw the GPRS icon flickering at the time. And no on the battery heat, no extra heat detected (so far but I'll be checking for that now). Any more thoughts are appreciated...
honestly the first time I have heard of this with any phone. Ask you provider to replace it as you have a year from purchase. otherwise i don't know what to tell you . many a 551 out there.
Thanks, but replacing is not likely to change anything; it happens with four v551s, all Cingular, and all purchased in the last two months from two different outlets. I can only guess but it may be local cells or something; will contact the store down the street in the morning.
No, that is all normal. The phone MUST check for reception occasionally, and when it does it conflicts with such things as stereos, computers and other electronic devices. I've noticed it with my V551, but it is not just my phone, it is ALL cell phones that do this. You're just going to have to get used to it, until something is done about the future electronic hardware. Hunter007
doesn't do it to me in my car , house or at work . I have also purchased several broken phones to repair and none of them do it .
