I purchased a Sony Vaio - VGC-RA710G preloaded with Windows XP MCE 1994. Sony offered an upgrade to MCE 1995 & I purchased it. All was well, then a few days ago I turned on automatic updates, & went to the MS update page. The "validation" screen popped up - I ran it. The results were that my copy of windows was NOT genuine. I tried the Active X & renaming the .dll file that both Sony and MS offered as the fix. They didn't work. I pulled up the system info for the product key & found that it's different from the product key on the back of the computer & the product key on the Sony MCE 1995 update. Any ideas how to fix this? Everything about my computer is legal, I purchased & have receipts for the computer & the update disc. Sony has been quick to respond, but it seems they are more interested in getting me to call for help & pay $20. rather than help me on the free e-mail help.
There is no MCE version 1994/95. Windows 95 wasn't even released by then. The oldest version is 2004...as MCE is an upgraded version of XP to allow media content to be the primary focus of the OS.
The only way around it to be found here is get a genuine key. Return it to the seller for your money back. They will get you a genuine key. If they don't, call the law it is fruad. Contact Microsoft too. I am sure they would be interested.
