    Hello everyone,

I'm hoping someone here can help me out with a bit of a problem I'm having with an external enclosure + DVD burner setup.

I've just purchased a Vantec NexStar 2 5.25 USB2 external enclosure (no firewire) and a Pioneer 109 drive. I'm hooking it up to a Dell Inspiron 8500 via a USB port (Intel 82801DB/DBM controller 24CD).

I'm getting very slow write performance when using Nero 6.6.0.12. Read performance seems to be ok - somewhere around x5 to x10 for DVDs and x20 to x40 for CDs, so I'm ruling out a USB link problem.

When burning in Nero I just can't keep the drive's buffer full, it sits at 10% and the burn happens in bursts. It takes a long time to burn a DVD.

The USB chipset in the NexStar 2 is an ALi 5621, so I'm not sure if the issue is there or not (but read performance would indicate that it's fine).

Is there anything else I should look at to speed up the write process?

As further information I've updated to Nero 6.6.0.13 - no change.

The firmware in the Pioneer drive is 1.40 and the driver version for my notebook USB ports is 5.1.2600. I believe that both of these are the latest versions.

The drive seems to burn successfully, but I'm having major compatibility issues with burnt discs and consoles + standalone DVD players.

I've also asked this question over in the DVD advanced forum.
