VCD acting strangely on DVD player

Hi, I burnt a VCD of music videos which works perfectly on the DVD player in my PC, but when I play it on a normal DVD player, the first video had no audio, the next was fine, and then about half of the rest were flickering, as if it were a really bad video. I've got a feeling it's something to do with the encoding of the video when I burnt it to VCD. But, like I said, it works absolutely fine on my PC DVD player and it's only certain videos that are playing up the normal DVD plyaer. Some are fine, some are flickering.

P.S. I use Nero to burn, and I've just realised that the ones that do work have a size of 352x288, and the ones that flicker all have a size of 352x240. But that doesn't explain why one of them had no audio, as that one was 352x288. It's an LG DVD player - model number DV6812P.

I suspect it is a PAL/NTSC problem. The standard resolution for PAL VCDs is 352 x 288 at 25 fps and the standard resolution for NTSC VCDs is 352 x 240 at 29.97 fps. Encode to the resolution/framerate/standard that your standalone DVD player/TV supports. Many do not support both standards.

 

I just checked, and your DVD player does support both standards. I still think it is a NTSC/PAL problem. I would suggest that you try encoding to the standard used in the area where you live and see if that fixes things. Also, make sure the output from your DVD player and the input to your TV are on the same standard. It should be in the setup for your DVD player. If it has an auto/manual mode I would suggest you set it manually.

The DVD player was actually a present for my father for Christmas, and I was testing the VCDs out using a small portable TV which has only a yellow video port and one white audio port on the back, so that might be part of the problem too. But, as I said, the VCD worked fine in my PC DVD player, and most of the music video clips worked fine on the standalone DVD player, just not the ones that were 352x240 in size. They play like a damaged video tape, all black and white and flickery or a TV not tuned in quite properly.
We got the first one with no audio working by the way, we just selected a different sound choice on the DVD player.

 

Hey I am having similiar problems. I have tried with PAL and without. 352x288 and 352x240. I tried burning slow etc. I get the choppy audio and like slow motion or the tracking id off type of picture. For the first couple minutes it is fine then it messes up. The further i get into the VCD the worse it is. I have tried 10 different burns, two DVD players, Four differnt formats or actual Mpeg movies. Got any ideas?????
