I usually put my avi files on a cd-r converting them to vcds using nero. How do I do the same using a dvd-r for more storage space using nero still?

    Nero won't do it.
If you just want to put VCD's on a DVD, you can burn them as data for storage.
If you want to play them on a standalone, they need to be authored.
The only program I know that will author VCD's to DVD without re-encoding everything is DVDLab.
