VCD or SVCD?

I have tried burning some anime from some torrent sites and burning them to SVCD I noticed they skipped unless I turned the frame rate up on the player. Even then, it was a little iffy. I tried to burn it slower but to no avail, also. I tried burning them to VCD, which has previously worked, however it wouldn't play at all. I suspect the fact that there were 3 files on the VCD this time instead of just 1 last time makes a difference. But does anyone know a happy medium I can take and do to make it burn correctly? I have a lot that I want to burn, however I want to make sure it's going to work, first. Any help would be appreciated.
Btw, I'm using Nero 6 and a DVD-RW at 16x (or close to it, I can't remember off hand.) I have a CD-RW at 8x also if it comes to it. Thanks.

 

Questions:

1) What format are they? AVI? MPG1/2? What's the frame rate on the source?

2) DVD-RW have a current max of 4X (and most are 2X or 2.4X). Are you sure you know what burner you have?

3) What's your process? Are you just burning whatever you have without conversion?

You can't burn a MPG2 (SVCD/DVD) into VCD. It just won't work. Also, I wouldn't go bragging about downloading stuff off torrents.

 

I have tried with avi's and with TMPGEnc Mpeg's and I have had the same problem. I think the MPeg's were at a frame rate of 23.something; I think the AVI's were around 30.30, but I don't know for sure. Should I reencode them to mpegs with TMPGEnc and change the frame rate to 30.30?
As far as the process goes, I just tried the AVIs into Nero and burned them, however with the MPeg's, I had to change them from OGM to AVI and decompress the audio with decompress.exe, then, I converted with TMPGEnc to mpeg and burned it.
The drives I have are a DVD-RW/CD-RW at 4x4x12 and a CD-RW at 8x4x32.
What do you make of it? (Btw, I was just saying that I got them from torrent as a reference, not bragging.) Thanx.

 

I should clarify. If they're not your own DVD backups, I wouldn't say where you got them from. (If illicit sources.) The forum police go prowling here.


If you're in N Amer/Japan, you should be encoding to NTSC standard, 29.97 fps. Anywhere else, code to 24 fps (PAL). Your choice if you want MPEG1 or 2. I've never had a problem.

 

first thing first, most animes is in 23.97fps, and your NTSC DVD player want 29.967.

you don't have to convert the framerate. you can go into tmpgenc and select in the encode mode menu "3:2 ppulldown" nw go to framerate and select 23.97 internally 29.967.

another thing might be the problem is th cd.....

and i want to say this, downloading anime is legal as long as it is not licensed by a publisher in your region.
as for hollywood movie, they got too many lawyers

 

Alright I'll check out the alternate encoding method you described. Nero won't want to reencode the file and screw it up will it?

if you're using nero to burn, its important not to use the express mode.

use the real, skip the wizard and choose svcd. and uncheck the box "make a compliant svcd"

now you don't have to downsample the audio to 44khz, and use 48khz.

and in tmpeg you can load the template "unlock", now you can beef up the bitrate to your desireable needs. keep it under 6500kbps or video will be jerky.

I tried it, but um, there was no sound... I tried reencoding it and I also noticed that it made my 23 or so minute movie into a 75 minute movie. The extra 52 minutes were complete blackness. What's up with that? Is it one of the settings or something I overlooked?
