can 1,2,3 or 4 films in vcd format be saved on a DVD AND viewed on a home DVD viewer?

VCD yes, but you need to convert the audio to 48kHz instead of 44.1kHz.

So (assuming DVDs come down a bit in price) you could copy 3 or 4 movies onto a single DVD-R and play them back and not (hooray) get up in the middle to swap discs like with VCD on CD-Rs.

    What's the catch?

    Paul.

PS : And (not to be pedantic, as I really want to know) would you actually not be converting the audio to 48, but rather leaving it as it is, assuming it came from DVD in first place?
