Trying to record a mpg that I downloaded onto VHS, please help!

Tried it first in it's native format burned to VCD!.....played ok.....even monitoring it through the video's input looked ok....but when played back from vhs it was in black and white! arggghhh!!!

O.K. I thought maybe it's in NTSC....and low and behold it was.....quick convert later and I tried again....but no it was still in black and white!!!! sodding thing.....doesn't look like macrovision I've seen in the past but is it? iS IT POSSIBLE FOR A RIPPED MPEG TO STILL CONTAIN THE MACROVISION?

    Any help would be appreciated

How did you output the video to VHS? Through PC's TV-out or through DVD player? I assume despite you changing the fps, the system looked at resolution or something and outputted it in NTSC anyway.
