My Panasonic VHS to DVD Recorder will not copy old VHS tapes older than 17 years old properly. I get flag waving and picture problems when trying to record older tapes to DVD. I have another VHS player that shows an excellent picture when playing the old tapes that I hooked directly into the DVD recorder, but on playback I still get the same old flag waving that I didn't see when I was actually making the DVD. Does anyone have any idea on what I should do? Should I go out and buy another DVD recorder and see if that works? I'm wondering if there is something in the other recorder that allows the picture to play ok but when it transfers over to the DVD recorder that device doesn't see the picture the same way. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are trying to copy commercial VHS tapes, than you need what is called "Video Stabilizer" to insert in video signal path.
I am not sure if combo drive will let you do that, unless it has a video out and in inputs.

These VHS tapes I am describing are non-protected home movies.

For that I do not really have any answer.
Only thing is to try downloading the tapes to your computer and make DVD that way, but it is a long process and require hardware.
