When you play the VCR are you trying to record to the DVD burner at the same time or does it just shut off when you put in a tape and press play?

If its that you are trying to record a vhs to a dvd it could be shutting off because the tape is copyright protected.

If the tape is shutting down just when you play, then you may have something caught in your pinch rollers inside the unit or your tape could be jammed inside the casing causing it to shut down.

Does this happen with all of your vhs tapes?

    When did you buy it?

If it was in the last 30 days, I'd take that thing back to the store and get another one.

Or, Funai will fix it free of charge for the first 90 days.
If your outside of 90 days, they will pay for the parts you must cover the labor and thats good for 1yr.

In order to fix the rollers, you'd have to open the unit. If its under warranty DO NOT OPEN IT! You will void your warranty. Besides its difficult to do sometimes. I tried it on a VCR. It ended up in the garbage.

Sometimes a dirt, a broken piece of VHS tape, or other matter will get stuck in the rollers. It will cause your machine to freeze up and shut down. That's what it sounds like is happening to your unit.

it has been over a year since i bought this unit. So the warranty is voided now. So i would just try to fix it. I will take the risk. Thanks for your kindly response in this matter.
