what programs are you using these DL media with? I have no luck using clone as it gave me 2 coasters right off the get go. Switched to imgburn and never had a problem since. These were MII verbs and I would buy them again. Edit: just checked.. mine are also MIS
i also use IMGburn and so far im 2-0 with MII. I don't like Clonecd cause it gave me a couple coasters with MIS!
I returned my MII DL discs to Micro Center, I ordered a pack from Meritline, received them today, crap, they are also MII. I will take everyone's advice and burn using Imgburn, will post later if I have any luck.
I've never had a problem with CloneDVD2. Imgburn - it's okay, but for my tastes I'll stay with CloneDVD2. I guess it's whatever you get accustomed to. Hey rmcgo, did MicroCenter process your return fairly quickly? My return was delivered back to them today, after sitting in limbo for two days before even being out-processed thanks to DHL.
Went to BestBuy last Sunday and they had six 20packs of the $29.99 Verb DL MIS. As luck would have it, I needed to buy groceries too.
I've just begun buying DVD+R DLs, and I keep hearing, especially on a certain site I'm a member of, that Verbatim DLs are by far the best and that everything else is junk. Here's a post I made today: Here's the reply I got: I replied with: So can someone tell me why, and how (in practical terms), Verbatims are so much "better"? Or point me to a comparison or an objective article on the subject? Or a thread on this forum, since I haven't found one. Is it only about getting a succesful copy (not making coasters)? Or is there also a difference in image quality? Is it possible that things have changed to the point now where other brands, such as Memorex, are just as good (or almost as good) as Verbatims? The new Memorex 8X DLs I've burned recently work in both of my DVD players and look great (on my HDTV). Thanks.
@griezzel Try this out for starters if you haven't read it yet. http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/index.htm Regarding DLs in particular, Verbatim developed the intitial DL specs and has been manufacturing them the longest. Verbatim developed the Photo Polymer method and is the expert at it. There are now 2 processes for producing DLs, Photo Polymer (2P) and Inverse Stack (IS). The IS method has been developed I think for 2 reasons, 1) to get away from licensing from Verbatim (a guess on my part) and 2) to reduce costs. The 2P method is quite a bit more expensive per disc than the IS method. Since the 2P method has been around the longest, it has the largest support in burner firmware plus Verbatim has had much more time in perfecting the technique. There are indications that Verbatim might also be starting to move to the IS method to reduce costs and stay competitive due to their movement of production of 2.4x DL media from Singapore to India.
Thanks for the link. Some of my questions were answered there (the various dyes used and longevity) but not all. I'd like to find more info. Seems like there shoud be a regularly updated buyers guide somewhere.
That link was to be the most current but it doesn't contain a Ritek +R DL MID that I prefer, the S04. There are lots of things that come into play regarding what is considered "the best". Alot of it is based on the number of people who leave opinions. Opinions are based on what the media is used for (data, DVD), burner, speed, player, method of determining quality, etc. Alot of which is/can be subjective. The best determination is 'What Works Best For You'.
