Are Verbatim DVD-R discs made with the MCC code? Because I am just trying to find some good media incase I can not find anymore Sony DVD-R MIJ.
What kind of things do I need to look for (like MIJ/MIT or "Made in Sangapore" or name of disc) on Verbatim DVD-R media if there are some good DVD-R media?

    Thanks

Also, are the DataLifePlus DVD-RW good too for data and video? I'm just wondering.

I just ordered some DataLifePlus myself.

I've heard that there Verbatim's top of the line.

I've used Verbatim media w/ Excellent results, in the past.

I believe all Verbatim MIT are MCC coded. DL's that are made in Singapore, I believe they are coded MKM? I believe MIJ Verbs are TY's?

I think I have read that RW don't test out as good as -/+ R's, but could be mistaken. I don't think I would use RW's for backups. I only use RW for testing.

If your burner can booktype, switch to Sony MIJ +R and booktype. If you can no longer find the Sony,Fuji, etc. MIJ TY's, than yes I would start picking up Verbatim's. My personal experience and testing has shown TY's to be slightly better than Verbatim.

videoboi- I don't think you would hurt anything by recording your video on - RW format disc . But if you can record +RW media & your burner allows you to booktype that would be a better option . Ideally though Why would you want to commit your video to an erasable format if your going to save it ! why not just go DVD-R or DVD+R up front ? Video On Erasble formats is more of a good Idea if you are'nt sure about what your doing burning wise or you want to try something different ripping & burning wise! If it works COOL! you can dub it to the permanet format you like best ! If it doe'snt work it's eraser time That I think is the true value of erasable media !also I've found that erasable media tends to become unstable after several erasing & rerecording cycles so that is also something to think on ! anyways hope this helps out even if it's only a little ! good luck videoboi & Happy burning!

I was just asking about DVD-RW for a Panasonic DVD recorder, the kind that hooks up to the tv. But thank you for the comments anyways.

Can some one quickly explain to me what is booktyping? I use DVD-R because they work on all the DVD players/recorders we have, so I've always used them.

But I want to learn about booktyping. How do I check to see if my burner supports it? I have a Pioneer DVR-108 with the lastest firmware I believe.

    Thanks.

If you use DVD-R media you don't need to booktype,I think ?

It's if you use +R media, that you need to booktype.

Booktyping helps media play better on say, older dvd players.

Helps them recognize the media better.

You can only booktype +R media and Pioneer drives do not booktype unless you can find some hacked fw for the burner. I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder and have used Verbatim successfully with it. In fact I only use Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden, the recorder really likes the Taiyo Yuden disks.

    @videoboi

sorry, you are outta luck w/ the dvr-108, i don't believe there is a modified/hacked firmware to enable booktyping~ :) i have the next model up, the dvr-109 and this one DOES have modified firmware available for it, it's called "buffalo" for your info~ :)

pioneer drives are very good, but it's only on the dvr-109 and the 110D that i THINK are bitset capable at this time...the older models are NOT :) that is the ONLY disadvantage of Pioneer drives in general, other than the non-booktype capable thing...my pioneer is the FASTEST drive i have to date and burns dvd-r format beautifully~ (which is what you are using now, so, carry on w/ the dvd-r because it's been working well FOR YOU, in the dvd-r format, i would suggest ONLY Taiyo Yuden made discs for your Pioneer drive)

    docTY~

Just got my Verbatim Inkjet printables (no stack ring)

Package says Made In Taiwan, on it.

Just inserted 1 disc into my Plextor Writer, to indentify disc.

    Manufacturer ID reads MCC 02RG20

    Is that good ?

Yes, those are excellent. I believe they are 8x -R, and I have got some of my best test results with those.

Some of the first discs I ever got were some Prodiscs that coded out as that. 2 years later and they still score a 98 in Nero CD/DVD test. Wish I would have bought 1000 of them. By the time I figured it out and learned about media codes it was too late. I tried buying 200 more and they coded out as F01. They're sitting on a shelf collecting dust :(

interesting thread guys. i got a problem. i, not so long ago, bought a 50 pack of verbatim dvd-r 8x. i found them on the clearance rack of my local best buy. geuss that wasnt a good sign to begin with. so now im trying to burn on them and when i put one into my dvd-rw drive my computer flips out. sometimes the drive dissapears from "My Computer" and sometimes windows explorer stops responding. my drive is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-103. is this a known problem? is there anything i can do about it? or am i just screwed? sorry for the lack of details, im not really familiar with codes and drives and all that other stuff u smart guys know.

Hi. I've been using -Rs but fixing to buy some +Rs because they are on sale. Do I set the booktype for these +Rs to 'DVD-ROM'? I have a Benq 1640 and I think the current settings are in "+R, +RW, +R DL". My 3540A is set at 'DVD-ROM' though. Help...........

@Prelude - Rule of thumb is to always booktype when possible I believe. This will only help make your backups more compatable with stand alone players.
