I have recently purchased some Verbatim Light Scribe DVD+R..this may seem a basic question and probably in wrong forum but the question is "can I print labels directly onto DVD and if so what prog do I use?"
You need a Lightscribe burner. I think you have to flip the disc and then it will burn your label on the label side. I do not have a lightscribe burner, so I don't know. I hear it takes about 30 minutes to make a decent looking label though. Also the burner should have some lightscribe software with it.
Thanks for your reply, I have done some "Digging around" and found out a little but not what I want to know. The printing of these lables look fabulous I have located software{only just now} but do I have to have Lightscribe burner?
You need a lightscribe drive. There is some hardware that detects something on the lightscribe discs. You can probably enable lightscribe on your drive with some unofficial firmware or crossflashing, but it probably won't work and not worth the risk.
once again thanks, I see that BenQ burners do what I want so I will check out their website. Probably dont need it but can never find my marker to write on disks....I have a couple of kids!!!!
I just bought a Lacie d2 Lightscribe drvie so let me tell you about my experience. The lightscribe discs do, in fact, need a Lightscribe burner. I mainly have been using them for CD-R mixtapes because the DVDs are frickin' expensive, like $1.30 for a lightscribe DVD. The results depend on what you are printing. As simple text label consisting of 1-30 characters only takes 5 minutes at most, and the results are very good. But if you want to print a full image on the entire disc expect it to take from 22-30 minutes depending on how much black is on the image. And really, to get the image dark enough you need to do it twice so about an hour for a quality image. The discs are very sensitive to grease on your fingers which will smudge the discs easily. Overall I am pretty happy with it but if you already own a DVD burner I would suggest looking into an Epson inkjet with dics printing capabilities as these offer full color and don't smudge as easily. Supposedly new lightscribe discs will be released by the end of the year wich will cut the print time in half and will solve the smudging problem. Color printing is in the works and will be enabled with a simple firmware update, this technology is still in its infancy I guess.
Thanks for that, I have only recently purchased my Pioneer Dual layer DV109 so I think I will look into the "Printer" option.. I guess I just wanted to be flash.

I also have the Pioneer 109 (I actually have the retail A09), and I love it!! Also I have seen the results from printing and they look just like factory pressed discs. I think this is the best way to go because you get full color and the quality it great. Also the printer is only about $100 - $120 and you can find them at some places for ~$50 - $70 after a rebate. I will get one when I need new ink for my printer. Why pay $70 for ink when I could just buy a whole new printer with ink for about the same?
A very good point, my canon printer has 6 cartridges and I just had them refilled at$6.00 each...........ouch, any printer reccomendations?
