as I just said about Memorex..... 3-4 yrs ago they were Ricohjpn disks! (used to buy them in spindles of 25 when I didn't know better!) Now is a different matter..... TYs for me, online, or Verbatim in the stores!
Thanks ArnieBear. The Verbs I got were pretty old. Thay have a pure white top and they have the same code as the silver tops. You are 100% right, they are the same quality as the one sold today but they just are a little different on the top.
As stated, at one time long ago, Memorex were a good disc BUT now ? Personally, I wouldn't take the chance. A comment about buying at the local retail store ~ Be careful that they have some sort of a return policy as do the online stores. The online stores will take back open packages where the majority of retail chains will not. When it all comes down to the bottom line ~ Pple will buy what they want to and well they should, it is, after all, their money. We can only offer our opinions and the experience of knowing what works for thousands of pple over the course of many years. As they say, "You can lead a horse to water, . . . ." IHoe, It wasn't meant as personal and I didn't take it as such. I was just tossing in my 2-cents. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not always a ranting maniac, bent on the destruction of all ~ )

@catfreak....I think it was Jer2911tx that said he can buy Memorex made in Japan from WallMart! That's what confused me! Memorex made in Japan...... that they were TYs??? I just picked up Sony that are manufactured by TY! ID is YUDEN000T02---MADE IN JAPAN right on the label.......... but I also picked up Sony DVD+RWs that are made in Taiwan that are RICOHJPN! soooooo their DVD+Rs are made in Japan and their +RWs are made in Taiwan! Anyway...... I am going to pick up some Maxells SOMEWHERE ONE DAY! and try them out! Verbatim, TYs, Sony for me! they work great! And even the new VideoGuard Verbatims are good..... they even feel right in your hands! like it's got weight to it! Balanced! real nice!

Circuit city has the 25 spindles of verbatim movie reel 4x dvd-r and +r's for $6.99 another member posted this sale.I went there today and got all they had 4 spindles of the -r and 1 spindle of the +r they are not marked on sale but they ring up at $6.99 also got the last pack of the 10 pack +r with the clear cases for $4.99.I believe the only reason any where left is because there still marked at $19.95
TDK +R's are made by RICOH and though they aren't TY's or Verbatims, they aren't bad. As we post, the sales sites change and though they might not be on sale at Best Buy, a little lQQking around will find them elsewhere at worthwhile prices. I do it online with my purchases It's more than worth the effort ~
yes, i did mention you can get maxells from walmart that are made in japan, but i made sure to point out that of the three or four different types of maxells they carry, you had to check because only one may be made in japan. i think i saw a maxell at frys that was actually labelled as made in india. i'm sticking with verbs. my desktop lite-on didn't like the tdk +r at all. not sure if it is because i'm running win 98 with it, but the verbatims were the first brand to not cause problems with the lite-on. again, i'm sticking with verbs
I know this thread is about verbatim but since pple keep naming TDK's, there is something you should know about TDK, something which I've had a chance to lQQk into. ~ Every once in a while the age old question comes up: What can I do about stopping those scratches on my DVD Discs ? The solution is easy enough, Begin by purchasing TDK's new addition to the DVD world. TDK has introduced a new, scratch resistant DVD's named, what else, the Armor Plated DVD -R. DVDInfoPro tells us that the media is made by TDK with their G02 dye app. It is advertised to be 100X more scratch resistant. I received a new TDK, "Armor Plated" DVD to try and see how it fared. I don't know about any "special" test BUT, while reading the advertising text on the side of the case, it would appear that I "accidentally" dropped the said case on the floor, "Oooops," where the disc "Popped" out and went skittering, recording side down, (what are the odds ?) a good 20' across my kitchen's, (gray-stone floor) which, while it was not dirty, by no means was it "clean." God, am I glad my wife isn't reading this over my shoulder." ) In order to get it to a place, where I could retrieve it with my extended grabbing tool thingie, it was necessary for me to send it, yet again, across the entire width of the kitchen floor to a place where I had a place to grip the disc. How about them apples ? This normally would result in a severely scratched disc, no question about it. That means, I was fully expecting it to be severely scratched but, most likely recordable OR, if it was a burnt disc, it might still be playable or, . . . . NOT. The TDK, Armor Plated disc, hadn't a single solitary mark on the recording (dyed) side of the disc. Well, it actually did looked scratched, marked and mauled BUT, after a few applications of ScubaPete breathing "fog" on it, and wiping it down the front of my dress shirt, the dirt etc. was transferred from the disc, to front of my shirt leaving the disc spotless. Remarkable ! NO, not the fact that I got my dress shirt dirty, the fact that the disc was not ! I was, and am, impressed ! I didn't really plan the accident BUT, as things so oft times go, it happened, imagine that ? The only "Down" side, ~ besides my dress shirt becoming unwearably dirty, is that this disc's recording speed is rated at a "Blazing" of 2X, tops. Using it on my Pioneer 109 (16X, DL burner) it was indeed very strict about that 2X part. . Finally, an added side note ~ Have you ever gotten one of "those" oily finger smears on the business side of your discs ? The kind of "smear" that you cannot remove unless you put it into your trusty disc cleaner, shoot a "spritz" of Isopropanol & Distilled water onto it and give it a bit "O" the ole' crank to 10 or 15 seconds before it vanishes from view ? Of course we never have that happen to us, only a "Newb" would do something like that. Well then, I'm not saying that I ever got one of those "nasties" on this nice new Armor Plated DVD BUT iffin I had, (and I hadn't) BUT, yep well, anyway, just the lightest rub across my pant's leg and it was long gone. Like, . . WoW, I could hardly believe it SOooo, . . . . I didn't do it again ! I mean, I really didn't smear my oily little paws all over that "puppy" and, . . . . , right again, one little pass and that "No-smear" was HISTORY ! Sooo, if you've some "O" them rugrats rumbling around your abode, and you're worried about getting some peanut butter, crayons marks or some light scratches on your kid's favorite discs, try a little Armor Plated DVD. ScubaPete thinks you're gonna like these guys to burn your kid's favorite movies on BUT you may wish to wait a little bit for the prices to go down. There you go guys, that's my 2-cents, Pete
well scubba.......did you happen to get the new VideoGuard Verbatim disks? they are supposed to be just 40X better protected than the other regular Verbatim disks? hmmmmmmm TDKs huh? well I got the VideoGuard Verbatims but I didn't want to slide them on the floor or anything like that since they cost about 1.40 a disk! LOL anyways..... the Verbatims are MCC and they record great! how much are your TDKs?
The TDK disc costs approx $12.99 for a package of 5 BUT I haven't seen them anywhere for that price. I was asked to "LQQk" at them so it didn't cost me anything ) I'll check out the Verbatims - I couldn't find them at Newegg. If you sea them somewhere, let me know where, OK ? Thanks, Pete
