Question: Can you burn DVD-R With a cd burner, that can play dvd's Problem: Ok this is very simple, I have about 12 movies and a couple seasons on my computer, I am starting to run out of space. now instead of deleting them I would like them to be burned to dvd-r's for later use, but when I put in a dvd-r my computer doesnt recognize it and it just says insert blank cd-r/rw. Now this computer is only 1 year old, so I dont know the problem. Im looking at the outside of my computer(emachine) and on one of the many stickers it said for the optical drive I have a DVD/CD-RW combo drive.
combo drive could be just for reading and not burning. if the movies on ur hdd are in avi format u could back them up to cd. some dvd players will play avi.
Sounds like a cd burner dvd rom. yank it out put in a dvd burner or if you have room in your tower ad the dvd burner.cost $39.95
unless your computer is very old (older than 4 yrs!) then you do have a DVD burner! It's possible that your DVD-R is not recognized by the burn! right click on MY COMPUTER (it's an icon on your desktop) go to PROPERTIES, hit the HARDWARE tab, the DEVICE MANAGER.... hit the minus sign at DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES...... look at your combo drive and find the make and model # ..... tell us what that is and we can better understand what's going on here! ok? then we can help you further!
found it here the drive is only a dvd-rom/cd-writer. you need to pick up a dvd writer if that's the only optical drive on your compie.
