I used FAVC to encode an avi (21 - aXXo) to DVD (using QuEnc, Aften audio encoder) and have done so to several dvds. When I encoded this particular one, the .avi plays fine on my pc, but the dvd files are horribly out of sync, minutes even, right from the start. This is true when playing on a standalone dvd player and right from the file using MPC. as I've done this with several other videos I assume the issue is with the file, but how can I fix it? Thanks in advance! ~Andrew
If the avi audio is VBR, it may be the cause of the problem. Load/drag the avi file to Avidemux. If a message pop-up saying that the audio is VBR, let it continue loading. On the left of the screen, click 'Audio' and select Lame mp3. Click 'Configure' and verify that it is set for 'CBR'. Click the 'Save' logo and give the new file a name (including extension) e.g new.avi then use that as the source for the conversion. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/avidemux.cfm
I tried loading the avi using Avidemux, and it said "Index is not up to date" "You should use Tools>Rebuild frame"... And so I did... The audio appears to already be CBR, and it still is very out of sync even when viewed as an avi in Avidemux. Is it possible to time shift the audio manually? It appears that the video "starts" well before the audio, even though they both start playing at the same time. This results in the audio being played significantly earlier than the video for the same frame (~1 minute.) Also, why would MPC play it fine but the dvd encoder doesn't, and neither does Avidemux? Seems strange to me, any ideas?
Did you try the suggestion from MysticE Drag the AVI onto GSpot and see if the audio is CBR or VBR. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/gspot.cfm
Look at attar's screenshot of Avidemux. Under Audio tick Shift and start experimenting till your audio lines up.
I looked into MysticE's first suggestion, but the site said that program doesn't work on vista, which is what I'm using. Tried GSpot, and it confirmed that it IS already CBR, so I tried manually shifting, which came up with some very strange results. It appeared to stay the same when playing with the shift, until I shifted it back to 0, then it was perfectly in sync. So I saved it, and then when I opened the new file in MPC AND Avidemux it was totally out of sync, which it wasn't before. So I tried reopening the original file again, and it appears to be 100% fixed, and I didn't even do anything to it... I'm converting it again into dvd now, I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks so much for all the help guys, these were my first posts on this forum, and I'm amazed at the quick responses and honest help I received. I'm glad I found this place ^_^ ~A
Update: Didn't work, I think it's just a glitch of some sort with the encode, so I gave up and found another release. Thanks again for all your help, sorry for double post (I didn't see an 'edit post' button)
