I just noticed that some DVD-RW drivers are about 20cm, but my bay drive is only 15cm, so how would they fit in there ? (planning on buying a DVD+-RW btw, any suggestions would also be welcome :) )

here's the picture that i saw btw:

Here, in the USA, the size of CD burners and/or DVD burners has not changed since the beginning of time. The bays that they sit in have been standard size ever since I bought my first computer in 1991.

I did not realize that the drives differ in size for other parts of the world. (Of course, I was never concerned with that fact.) You learn something new every day.

Hi Agent_J. If you look at your picture, the mounting holes are in the same place reguardless of the length. You may just have some extra over-hang in the rear area. So you might possibly have the back hit something inside. I haven't ever run into a mounting problem.

Suggest you may be confusing width with depth - try a front view - they do not go in sideways.

    Is this a prank?

External drive bays are 15cm wide. Length is of little consequence unless you have a very serious cooling problem in your box.

Otherwise, I wish I could afford to own all those drives at one time.

    That's some funny sh*t.

Anyways, for those who might want to know; the Lite-On writer (as is the case with most, if not all, Lite-On drives) are a shorter length allegedly because of some proposed new standard concerning size of optical drives.

This is from (vague) memory. Think I read it in the gumpf that came with my Lite-On 166S reader.

Personally, I think it's a cost reduction exercise.

OK, now lets all go back to the photo. Does anyone see the similarities between some drives?

My Buslink drive is identified as being an NEC 1300a. Which one would you expect to pay more for?
