I am experiencing a very strange issue. I have rosetta stone and am trying to learn spanish at home and work. From home I made an ISO copy of the materials disc (the program works in 2 parts- install the program and then install the materials disc for the lessons. It only looks for material on cd as far as I know) So... I bring in a copy of the install and materials cd's... Everything is fine. I begin to learn spanish... On day 2 I run the program and install the newly copied materials cd (that worked the day prior)... When I load the disc my windows XP pro machine does not see any data on the CD-R!!! Now it worked one day prior! WTF! So I walk to my neighbors desk and pop in the cd... AutoPlay runs and I see all the folders and files fine! It appears I cannot read this ISO Joliet formatted cd... But I did the day prior and I know it was a good burn on a new cd and the cd works fine on ANY other pc with windows XP here!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
Oh, and my first thought was that my optical drive went bad... So I replaced it with a brand new DVDRW... It's one day old. New firmware, patched, and I have the same problem. I have made copies with nero 7 and all the other copies work on other pc's not here though. Also, on this pc... ISO buster see's the files. But I need windows to be able to recognize the cd so that the rosetta stone software can play... Something F'd my windows registry is my opinion.
Try ripping the files onto your computer, and running the Auto-Run on your computer instead of off the disk. Let me know how it works, I have never had to do it. EDIT: By ripping I mean extracting them with ISOBuster.
I was able to 'rip' it to a folder on my desktop... Not sure which setting I was supposed to use... But i think i did 'extract raw but convert' option... Anyway, I was able to get the files and folders onto my pc... But my Rosetta Stone program will only look for cd content and not content within a folder that I choose (as far as I know)... So I then, using nero 7 tried to rip the newly ripped info to another cd... Different cd brand even... When I try to view the content through explorer or my computer... I get a "D:\ is not accessible"... But ISO buster see's the data on the new cd!!! This sucks!
I can view this material on any other pc here... but not mine. I am currently transfering the contents via our gigabit network from the original to a folder... Not sure what to do next. This has to be a setting, spyware, or registry issue. Thanks in advance for any help.
If it says it needs a disk, then try mounting it with Dameon Tools, Alcohol 120%, or ISOBuster should have an option to mount it to a virtual drive.
Just an update... I used msconfig and made certain to use a 'normal' startup... This did not help. This cd will load and open and auto run in ANY computer I put it in except this one!!! Please someone help.
Alcohol 120% was of no help as My program disc looks only to "D" and there is no way to point to another direction to look for data... This sucks
sounds like windows is having a problem with your drive. is your drive recognized in MY COMPUTER? Try uninstalling your drive in DEVICE MANAGER and then rebooting! See if this helps. Also, are there any other disks that are RECOGNIZED or NOT RECOGNIZED with the same drive. If your drive recognizes other disks then you know it's not the drive it's the media..... but.... if your drive recognizes DVDs and not CDs then your drive (new or not) might be bad. Check all cables and how you connected your new drive to the computer! Just some suggestions..... hope this helps.
ok..... here are some things that you can do to help windows run better too: 1. keep your machine clean and mean!~ run CCleaner.... it's a free registry cleaner that also fixes issues! 2. Defrag your computer is good advise to any one that has a computer. This will help with windows accessing your hard drive easier and make your computer run better. 3. do virus & spam scans often.... at least once a month! these are simple and easy things to do when you get problems like a drive not recognizing a disk that works on other computers or worked before!
I have up-to-date antivirus (symantec-patched daily) and spyware (spybot-adaware-windows defender)(all patched)Scans run regularly and come up clean (non-criticals) Recently I used windows one live care to clean up registry, scan, and defrag... I will manually defrag as well. I have not used this tool CCleaner v2.05.555, but will run it.... So far, none of this has resolved my issues. Thanks for helping. Please keep trying... Regards, Jay
try a system restore to the day it worked or now you have rinsed your pc with various apps uninstall the rosetta and install with copys (dont use any cleaning apps) it may be taking reg entries out? --------- use the copys to install via ALCOHOL120% as when installed it may remeber location so install from alcohol virtual drive and use via alcohol virtual drive (if you get me?) you installed from D: so it will try to find D:, load from E: and it will look for E:<--- Alocohol...
Ok, let's see. The drive reads the other cdr's I have put in with pics and vids on them... Also the drive reads the copied rosetta stone program install disk (which is a seperate cd). I am really not very well versed with alcohol 120% Rotary. Any chance you could put that in laymens terms? I get the gist. Uninstall the program... But how do I get alcohol 120% to install the programs through my physical "D" drive and run the install through the virtual "E" drive? Sorry if that is a ignorant question but I have only used this app one time. Thanks
I have uninstalled everything and am ready to reinstall but will wait for further directions prior to screwing this up again. lol. In theory your idea does seam very sound. I hope it works. I am uncertain how to put the cd into the physical and install it through the virtual...
it has copy protection!!! so need to attack this another way! http://club.cdfreaks.com/f80/need-help-making-backup-cd-rosetta-stone-language-153344/ safedisc protection need to use alcohol 120% latest version with with a certain safedisc template...
Really? That doesn't explain why it once did work and WILL still work on any other computer I have put this on...
