I am trying to send the video signal from desktop computer to HD LCD TV. The only video port on the desktop is VGA and the TV has S, RCA (composite and component) and HDMI input. So I bought on ebay the VGA to S, RCA adapter shown here: From there I used S-video cable and pluged into TV. Nothing coming out. I read somwhere that this can work only if the video card has TV-out capability. I believe (but not 100 % sure) that my video card ( Intel® 82945G Express Chipset )does not have TV-out based on this link : TV-out What option(s) I have to get the video signal from my desktop computer sent to the TV? you cant just simply plug in the cable's and try and see if it'll work, there are some options in windows you have to enable first they are very simple and will only take a moment 1> http://www.svideo.com/displayvideo.html 2. http://www.svideo.com/compaq1700.html after looking at these you CAN'T GO WRONG!! ========================================== I can tell you whether or not your computer supports "VGA to S-video" but i need to know the model/+version/+brand of your video/graphics's card you can find out by right clicking on my computer>properties.hardware tab>device manager> and under display adapters make sure you tv menu is set to receive the signal in s-video (i had to enable an option) with your current set up you will have super crappy video and audio, if you have HD LCD TV then do yourself a favor and spend 50 bucks and get a video card that supports dvi so you can connect to your tv's hdmi, like (make sure you computer supports the card) this then you can easily get a DVI-HDMI cable and you will have HD experience! btw:if you plug in the s-video you also gotta switch the tv video channel such a newbie thing but we all forget time to time!

no sorry but your card is very old and it doesn't seem it support "TV-OUT" BUT FIRST update your drivers, although it's highly unlikely but when your chip was released it might have had the "tv-out" capability's but the creators didn't release the support for it with the original drivers so update your drivers!! http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2102 then using the guides i gave you before try connecting to your tele again! ====================================== http://forums.filefront.com/tech-discussion/347101-how-much-performance-difference-there.html this guy had a Intel® 82945G Express Chipset and replaced it with a ATI Radeon x550 (a nice card i'd suggest not buying a card lower then this) and he seemed to have no problems with installing it but yes get a new video card that has a s-video port so you can go directly to the tv with s-video or as i said before get a video card with DVI so you can go DVI TO HDMI, it'd be shame if you used s-vido on such a nice tv, you deserve the full hd experience
I just to wish to give you an update as you were nice trying to help. Updating my driver did not help, the card obviously has no TV-out. I will be looking for a grahic card that has a digital TV-out. Thanks again
danfm if you just want tv out you can just get a minimal upgrade any card with a s-video will do!(256MB ATI RADEON 9250 DDR TV-OUT SAPPHIRE (M004032) or get with the times and get something more modern!(ATI Radeon x550)
You're right, I should do a favour to my TV and give him a nice digital input from my computer. I'm glad you made recommendations for video cards, that Radeon X550 with DVI output looks good, I will be looking for it. Good day
Ok, few weeks later here I am again and hopefully someone will read this and help out. This is what I bought, ATI Radeon X1600 XT 256 MB PCI-E DVI VGA Card: Very nice card but I can't use it. Beofore buying it, I did not check its dimensions and my desktop dimensions. I have a slim desktop (about 4") but the card width is about 4.5". When I put the card in the PCI-E slot, I can not close the desktop. I can not return the card because I opened it. Not sure what to do. Question is - is there some kind of external PCI-E adapter/slot into which I can plug the graphic card I bought outside the computer and then connect that external PCI-E adapter/slot with a cable to the PCI-E slot on my motherboard. Buying new desktop or leaving it open is not an option. Thanks
even if the desktop wont close the card will still run LOL you get a new card...and YOU CANT USE IT LOL if you can't return it try cutting of part of the metal end, it doesn't matter if it can't connect with the case, as long as the card is able to get into the PCI slot your fine! -tripplite
Yeah, I was crying and laughing at the same tiem when I realized what shit I was in. However, not funy any more for me. I know the computer and card will work great without desktop case closed, I maybe stupid but not that much. However, having desktop open or cutting its case would look too ugly and I don't want to do it. Anyway, thanks for droping by, if you come accross some other solution for example external PCI-e adapter/socket let me know. I still can tell my buddies I have a cool graphic card, I don't need to tell them that it's useless. Good day
if you cut the end off nobody will see! its inside the computer you nutter! i seriously feel bad for you, unfortunately there is no external pci ports to date
Yea dude, just cut about an inch or so of the metal part off. All you will need to buy is a good pair of sheet metal snips. Don't give in! You made it this far!
Thanks guys you were so helpful. Just to be sure, instead of in an inch as you suggested, I have cut 2-1/4" off of the card, straight through the fan. The card fits now, the fan is more quiet, the computer is less heavy since half of the card is gone and the rest of the card in the PCIe slot is working great! The video out signal is excellent! Your care for others is touching. Hoefully you get the same help and support once you need it. Thanks again.
dear lord!!! i hope you were kidding!(i know you were) alls thats important is that the card fits in the PCI slot (the end bit of the card anchors it in) i once had a similar issue here is a pic of the part i cut off! glade you went the mile and cut the card to fit!! Does anyone know how to make these cables? i have an old monitor, is it possible to cut the VGA port off and wire it to a normal yellow AV video cable?
