know this sounds strange but was thinking of becoming self employed and wanted to know what software and hardware the professions (or semi) use in their line of work?

would i be able to get away with using pc's and roxio/pinnacle or ulead products?

grategul to anyone who can help

The software you mentioned is not at all Good for any sort of professinal video editing...They are all Consumer Level Programs and are Lacking in Features Needed to do professinal Editing....

If you want to Create professinal VHS to PC Transfers and do Professinal Level editing and DVD Authoring then you will First need a Professinal Quality capture device Like at least a "Canopus ADVC-100 ($250)" but the "Canopus ADVC-300 ($450)" would be better....

And a Video Good Editing DVD authoring Package Like "Sony Vegas Video v6.0/DVD Architect v3.0" would be Good ($500)....

So for under $1000 you could get the needed hardware and Software to start up a Basic Editing DVD Authoring Studio, You would also need to have a Fast PC (at least 3.0ghz with 1gb Ram) with 2 Big fast hard Drives (One For Video Files)......

    Cheers

thanks for info, very useful. presently have usb capture device.
if i wanted to transfer multi vhs to dvd then i would need a couple of pc's, but would that create confusion with having more speakers and thus more background or is there a way round that? what software do you think i would need to add cd tracks to the project? Also looking at transfering from digital camera/camcorder so as to transfer photos to professional lookin quality with extra/special features then i would probably need photo software? and some kind of card reader for camcorder shots/film? for the camcorder would the software you mentioned be OK? but not sure of still photos software?
look forward to your reply and thanks very much
