I recently purchased a VHS / DVD player that can convert the recording on a VHS tape to a recordable DVD to replace the rapidly disintegrating taped show. Most of the recordings on the tapes are dubbed from original bought tapes. When I attempt to convert these tapes to DVD I get a notice stating "copy protected image, can not record" and the DVD drive shuts down. This does not happen when I dupe tapes made in my camcorder. Does any one have a suggestion as how to get around this and proceed with the coping of these tapes??

Presumably it's Macrovision protection on the tapes.
The only way to get around it is if the VCR part has a video/audio output connectors and the DVD part has a video/audio input connectors.
Then you can insert a so called Video Enhancer to remove the protection.

The link is just for illustration.

You could probably try Ebay or ask around - lot's of people bought them from Radio Shack in the Nineties to backup tapes.
