I havent read all the posts and their could be something on this topic already, but why dont you guys just do a straight to dvd...Meaning use your vcr and hook to a home dvd recorder...This is the simplest way...I have a Lite On model that I bought for $150...It can record up to 8 hours and the good thing about it....Is it works just like a vcr, you can pause, stop, and even take out the dvd and use it later to record...For my model I found out that 3 hours is the max for best quality....
You are exactly right it is the best way and perfect way to do this! Im flabbergasted that the "hard road" is the "only road" in doing things? It works in real time, allows for long play disks which are a real treat. You can also get two and a half hours of pure digital without any quality drop. You can put the disk into a dvd burner and then transfer it to your hard drive with minimal fuss and then if you like edit to your hearts content. Bugger capture devices they just cant compete with real time transfer. Im glad ive got my dollars in a good dvd recorder unit for it opens up a simple way to transfer analogue or digital sources to DVD with no problems. The money is well spent on this unit and you can record tv shows, timer control it etc or use G code. DVD RAM is top notch stuff as is the added bonus of having a jpeg reader on ya tv. Doldy digital sound well what more can ya say. I guess others just want to go the "hard road" if that is the way they like it but,,,,,,,,,,,?
My question to you is can it bypass macromedia protections on a vhs tape and such? One of the reasons i had a capture device was to do that... But tell me what model you have and i guess ill work off that
This forum is meant for discussions on how to capture TV shows, home movies from old Hi8 or VHS cassettes, etc. I use it to capture home made movies via a camcorder that is of analogue format. As far as macrovision is concerned your wanting to dub a copyrighted tape. Why copy from vhs when you have DVDs that are digital sources that are better to use if you want to copy it. VHS tapes that are macrovision protected can be dubbed if you use a older vhs tape player that doesnt recognize it. I wouldnt bother doing that anyway. I am using the dvd recorder for family tapes that are transferred to DVD. I guess I just took it for granted that VHS meant home movie tapes as the forum states. If you want to go to the effort of making a copy of a movie then go for DVD to DVD with decrypter software as many others have posted how to's, or in line macrovision eliminator. I wouldnt bother with a vhs tape of "Madagascar" which would seem pointless when the DVD is available. Sorry it didnt cross my mind that there are people in here that want to use VHS tapes of a commercial nature to copy from. So why use a capture card? Get a DVD rom re writer and go from there! Capture cards are far to slow and I dont know if its worth while to connect a dvd player to this???? If you have a VHS tape that is a classic and is not available on dvd then I guess a capture device would be the way to go but how many of these old vhs tapes are out there and if so how good condition are they in without drop outs, skips, poor resolution and creased tape???
See, my copywrighted VHS tapes aren't movies, but they are magic videos. Instead of having hundreds of VHS tapes, I transfered most of them to DVD via capture card...
LOL thats funny! So if there magic then you dont need anything here on the forum, you just have to wave that wand! So what capture device do you use ? Why so many copyrighted vhs tapes when theirs DVD technology? I wouldnt bother with copyrighted vhs tapes. Get DVDS they have much better formatting abd menus and special features. Once done you can go DVD to DVD recorder in real time. I dont have many VHS macrovision tapes and the ones that are available are stretched from here to long mile island!!!
I have tried this method recently (VCR to DVD recorder) although I cannot get my PC to read the copied DVD (Unknown Format). And the copied DVD will not play on any other DVD player except for the player I copied too. Could this be the type of disc I'm using (Princo)?
Buck, your dvd recorder should have a option to make your disc compatible...Check your menu option for this feature...You have to do that before it will play in other dvd players and even on your pc...
Thanks for the help. I don't know whether the player has that function although I will certainly check.
Thanks for the prompting rmania. I have now read the instructions and all it was, is the 'Finalization' of the disc on the completion of writing.
Can anyone help I am in the UK and have a Liteon dvd recorder with hard drive, and I want to record a video on to dvd using the Liteon. But I can get the vcr to play a video but my dvd recorder only records from my Freeview pic on tv (which is what I set it up to do originally) through the scart lead, (the Liteon has an analogue tuner). Can anyone help me out with the connections.
Ok have managed to record a blank screen and sound to my dvd recorder through scart from vcr anyone know how to get the pic too!
