I'm in the process of transferring my vhs tape to dvd with a lite-on dvd recorder and want to know if there is a relatively easy software package available to edit the DVD when I'm finished (add light in dark areas and remove light in other areas etc) I've never edited anything before so I need something fairly easy to use. Thanks

You can try AviDemux for this.
The steps required to do this, include:
Rip the DVD to a folder on the HD.
Open the ripped VOB files, edit, adjust the colours/contrast etc and save as a compliant mpeg2 file.
Author the file to DVD format.

Rip the disk to a folder using DVD Shrink.

Run AviDemux and open the folder - load VTS_01_1.VOB
Set the options shown on the left of the screen.
Open the video Filter Manager, select 'Colors' and choose the first filter (MPlayer eq2) - adjust the colours as required and close back to the main screen.
Save the file - give the file a name and include the extension, e.g. newfile.mpg

After the new file is encoded - exit.

Load the mpeg file into DVD Flick.
Under Project Settings, set 'Video' > 'Advanced' to 'Copy mpeg2 steams'
If you don't do this the file will be encoded again, which takes a long time and results in more quality loss.
Ensure that your settings suit your video standard (NTSC for North America, PAL for the rest of the world).
optionally burn the new DVD using ImgBurn (part of the DVD Flick package).

thanks for that. I got the start and end trimmed using VIDEOREDO and burned the dvd but I never went at the colour, contrast etc. I still have the .vob files so I'll follow your steps and play around with the colours etc. Thanks again
