I have a computer with audio/video inputs on the video card and wish to backup my VHS movies without a dvd/vcr combo. I have heard that you need some sort of mod box?? is that completely necessary or is there some software I can download to solve my problem? any help is greatly appreciated.

I bought the Hollywood Bridge by Dazzle. It comes with software and you can hook up your RCA jacks from your VCR to the bridge and from the bridge hook up a USB to the computer! With the software you capture the video of the VCR to the computer and then it converts it to DVD format! waaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhlllllllllaaaaaaa VCR to DVD.

This can also be done using NeroVisionExpress, you can either transfer your video to h/d (preferred method) or burn directly to DVD but you will not fit as much on DVD doing it that way.

My video capture card is a WinFast 2000XP and I have converted a number of videos to DVD using NVE.

    Cheers.
