Hi, I have some questions about this: I bought Pinaccle 500 PCI card and captured VHS with Studio 10 like DVD capture (best quality) and results is not so bad. I also tried with IuVCR like "uncommpressed" and aslo with "huffyuv_220" and AVI file looks very good on PC monitor then MPEG captured with Studio10 Then AVI file I commpress with MainConcept MPEG Encoder and than MPEG burn on DVD (like simply DATA) to check quality and I saw that where is bright on screen picture trembling and it's it's tired to look at screen. What is problem about this "trambling" Also need info about this: I have VHS 240 minuts cassete and need tu burn all on DVD (maybe 2 DVD will be used) When I try to make DVD with Studio10 beause of bigger duration (240 min) Studio automatics make for me quality to 26%. My question is how to calculate exactly duration to burn on 4.7 Gb ? wbr
What you are describeing soulds like Interlace artifacts and/Or a reversed Field Order.... If you are Captureing from a Pinnacle DV500 PCI card then You should be Captureing the Video in it"s Native DV AVI Format as the DV500 card uses Hardware DV Compression.... DV AVI files are allways Bottom Field First so when you are encodeing your Captured Files to Mpeg-2 for DVD make sure you set the Field Order to "Bottom Field First" of you can De-Interlace which will also Get rid of the Jittering.... You should also Author your Mpeg-2 files to DVD Instead of Burning them as Data Files, That is if you want the Disk to be Playable on all DVD Players and Be able to Have Menu"s and Chapters and Scene Selections and even Be able to Put more than Just One Movie on a DVD.... Cheers
My capture card is this: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSi...o/Studio+Family/Studio+500-PCI+version+10.htm And when I capture in AVI uncompressed no drop any frame. Also I checked setting in MPEG encoder and was set to "Bottom Field First" , maybe because I try on external DVD with DVD RW, because some MPEGS goes smoothly and this encoded with MainConcept not going smoothly, will try on regular DVD. One more question please (even there is answered on other post), which MPEG editor (proper editor) to use cut/merge MPEGs without loose quality, because after capturing in AVI I must encode in MPEG (because of big AVI files) and need to have samples of clips I captured from VHS... wbr Thanks for helping
For Mpeg editing I suggest you Maybe Try "Womble Mpeg2VCR" as it will edit without quality Loss and render very quickly.... Cheers
I want to go from vhs to dvd for some old tapes. I have Nero 7 and Roxio 6. What do I need to connect the vhs to my computer and then record?
@Minion Finaly I found the problem with trembling In Mainconcept MPEG "must" be selected "deinterlacing-bottom fiels" Thanks for helping!!! wbr Ziko
Now I bought Canon MV850i digital camcorder and when make capture with Studio10 in MPEG2 format , and put to DVD media, picturee is GOOD on TV, but when I recompres (render) same file with Studio10 (let's say to put some transitions) and then burn to DVD Media and watch on TV same picture trembling That was no problem with Studio10 and VHS capture. I aslo tried to capture MPEG2 with MainConcept with selected "deinterlacing-bottom fields" and that MPEG edited in Studio10 and then no trambling on TV, what is problem ??? I need this because I wanna have MPEG2 in my library (on DVD media) and when need some clip to put in new montage clip. That's why I can make AVI capture because will no make my " montage" right now... wbr Ziko
Well Firstly when you use Studio 9/10 to add a Transition or edit a Mpeg-2 file is re-encodes the Video to ass the Effect or Transition and this Has a Very Large Negitive effect on the quality of the Video and it could also be Introduceing Interlaceing artifacts when rendering which is Causeing the Trembling (Pluss the Pinnacle Mpeg-2/DVD Encoder Sucks)....Also De-Interlaceing should Get Rid of any Trembling or Interlace artifacts but it also Makes the Image a Bit less Sharp.... If you want to edit Mpeg-2 files and add Transitions Without it re-encodeing the File and Lowering the quality and Introduceing Interlace artifacts then you should use a Proper Native Mpeg editor like "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" or use an editor that uses Smart Rendering..... Good Luck
As I understand and for Mpeg2 data is better to use other coder, Is it ok if I use capture with MainConcept Encoder and save on DVD-R as MPEG2 encoded with mainconcept instead Pinnacle Studio capture in MPEG2 ? wbr Ziko
Well you will Probably get better quality Captureing with MainConcept to Mpeg-2 over Pinnacle to Mpeg-2, If that is the question you are asking??
With Mainconcept I can capture via Premiere, because if I capture direct in Mainconcept encoder not good results. I also captured in AVI with Premiere,Studio10,Scenanalyze ... and don't see any big diferences. My question: for AVI capture, may I use any of this with good results (except Scenanalyze make logos to register)? Then I recopmress in MPEG2 or DVD with stendalone Mainconcept encoder. After all I can edit mpeg2 in Premiere (picture trembling in Studio10) and save as mpeg2 via Mainconcept encoder again. Just to note that with VHS-C camera I can capture in mpeg2, then editing and save again in mpeg2 with Studio and all is OK, problem is now with digital camcorder. I like Studio because is easy to work has meny build in musics and interesting transitions with FX studio.... wbr Thanks for helping, you are the only person who give answers Ziko
I saw some posts from Minion that I was hoping to get the same type of response for my question. Rather than start a new thread I will try here first. I have an Avermedia AverDVD EZMaker WDM Video Capture PCI card that was about $40 two years ago. I want to transfer my vhs-c to dvd. I have Nero 7 Ultra Edition. I am capturing to MPEG-2 with resolution 720 X 480, aspect ration 4:3, frame rate 29.97 fps. Bottom line, I want to know if this is an acceptable quality transfer of the tapes for my collection or should I go out and buy a better capture card, etc? I do not think my machine has firewire capability unless I added a card for that. Your help and advise is appreciated in advance.
This is a Question that only you can answer as Only you know what is acceptable Quality and you know what the Quality is Like Captureing from your card.... Could You Get Better Quality with a Better Capture Device?? YES!! But Getting a device Like a "Canopus ADVC-110" or a "Canopus ADVC-300" is quite a Bit more expensive than your Avermedia card and the process of Createing a DVD From VHS Would take Longer because you Don"t capture to Mpeg-2 with the Canopus Device cuz it has a hardware DV Encoder and Captures to DV AVI format so you would need to do the extra Step of Encodeing the Captured DV AVI files to Mpeg-2 before authoring to DVD..... You could get a device that will capture Quite a Bit better quality and in Mpeg-2 Format useing Hardware Mpeg-2 compression For quite a Bit cheaper than the Canopus Device, It wouldn"t Capture the Same Quality but it would be better than with your Avermedia Card and with a Hardware Mpeg-2 encoder card you can do other Stuff with your PC while Captureing Video as Your CPU doesn"t have to Compress the Video as it is Compressed by a Chip on the Capture Card..... The 2 Hardware Mpeg-2 encoder cards i would recomend are the "Hauppaggue WinTV PVR-150" and the "ATI Tul Theater 550" and both are in the $100 Range....Both Cards Have an Analogue TV Tuner so you can record and watch TV Chanells and they both also have RCA/Composite,S-Video and audio Inputs so you can connect a VCR or Camcorder or any Analogue Video device.... Out of these 2 cards the "Theater 550" should in Theory be the better Capture card because it has a 12 bit decoder were the Hauppaggue has a 10 bit decoder, also the "Theater 550" has Locked audio support so there are no Chance of sync problems , also the "Theater 550" also has a 16MB Frame Buffer so you Don"t Drop frames and it also has a Hardware Dolby Digital AC3 encoder to encode the audio which is the best format for DVD"s and it also has Hardware Noise Filters and 2D/3D Line Filters to Clean up Noise ,Stabilize the Image and help remove Interlace Artifacts and it Comes in PCI and PCI-Express Configurations..... Cheers
Minion; I sincerely appreciate your advise. I will play with the Avermedia card for a while and then decide if I want to upgrade. Nero technical support claims that the rate I am capturing at is very close to what commercial dvd's are recorded--I had a tough time swallowing that line. Nevertheless, I will determine how much degradation I am getting with my current setup. If I don't like it, I will upgrade. Again, that was very kind of you to respond so quickly with excellent information. Have a happy new year!
