Using Youtube I have downloaded a number of Classic Video Clips from the 70’s in MPEG-4 to file on desktop the quality on some videos is a lot to be desired. I am using “Any DVD Converter Pro V3.5.8”.
    Questions are:
What is the suggested DVD type +R or –R.?
File type for burning to DVD for playing on a wall mounted 52” HDTV for bet quality.
Suggestions on Video and Audio options do I leave with default settings or can I for instance go max on Video Size?

I always convert all my videos to 640x480 if I will be watching on a regular tv. But you won't be able to do much as far as improving the quality. Usually youtube video is very low quality and can not improved very much.

Only use verbatum 16X+ or sony 16X+ blank DVD media to play on a regular tabletop dvd player. All the other brands of blank dvd's will give you problems with freezing or stuttering during playback. Check the section in this forum on dvd media for more information but you can't go wrong with verbatims and sony.

Both are equally good, but if using +R discs, I suggest book typing/bit setting to dvd-rom for best player compatibility
