I have an MSI 440 X 8x AGP and am trying to capture video from my VCR. Problem I am having is that when I "stop capture", I immediately get an error message saying "can't open *.avi" file. Why is this? I chose to save it as an mpeg when I first started. I've exhausted all my possible options. I am using Pinnacle Studio v8.5 (doesn't include any troubleshooting) and Premiere v6.5. Any idea's?

As far as I know that graphics card (I have the same MSI card but 4X AGP) is only for TV out not TV in. You will not be able to capture anything from your VCR as the flow is going in reverse. Unless of course it is a new card that I have not yet heard of, *similar to an ATI AIW?*

It has an adapter on it that fits into the S-Video capture port on the card. On the adapter is four (4)ports, one (1) for S-Video-IN and one (1) Component-IN, one (1) S-Video-OUT and one (1) Component-OUT. I know that it can capture video, just curious to know why the program/HDD can't save the file as AVI. The card is capable as well as the program.

I might be wrong, but some cards only capture in Mpeg 1 or 2
