i have a HIS iceq3 x1950 pro and lately during a game the screen gets these small blocks that go diagonally on my screen. I just cleaned the card out and it still does this. My case is well ventilated and there is a side panel 80mm fan that blows directly onto the card. So im not sure if its over heating or if there is an error. During crysis warhead it happened within 5 minutes of playing the game, oblivion was anywhere from 10ish minutes to never. also i have a antec basiq 550 plus with 3 12v rails at 22A, 22A and 25A so i dont think its a power supply problem
It sounds like what you are seeing is artifacts on the screen. I had an issue similar to this and luckily my card was under warranty and they replaced it no questions asked for me. It could be just a factory defect or the result of overheating. In this case no amount of cooling is going to save your card. Is the card overclocked? If it is overclocked, revert it back to factory settings and see whether or not that fixes the problem. What do you mean by cleaned it?
No, its not overclocked. id rather have my parts work then trying to overclock them and have something go wrong. i cleaned out the heat sink and the cooler. its a two slot card. this card is not under warrenty anymore. i think im going to buy a gts 250 1gb ddr3 from bestbuy. would be from newegg but i got gift cards to BB. thanks for the help.
Sometimes the compound that is between the heat sink and the components on the board will dry out and turn to dust. You can pick up a tube of it for less than $5 pretty much anywhere. You might try cleaning the old compound off and squeezing some fresh compound on there. Try not to put too much on. If need be, you can find stuff online about how to replace heat sink compound. If that works, then hey! you don't have to buy a new card. Chances are the card is a bust though, sorry dude. How to Replace Thermal Compound: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+replace+thermal+compound
so i was just playing crysis warhead at 1366×768 and i kept checking catalyst control and it said the card was hanging between 49-52C. i played the first 20 minutes of the game with out any issues. like seeing artifacts or anything.
Weird maybe its an issue with catalyst controls. I haven't used ATI cards in years so I have no idea how well Catalyst works anymore. Sorry, I am no longer your expert. But if you keep having the issue, all I recommend is the heat sink compound.
much thanks. i upgraded catalyst control from the legacy one amd told me to use to the newest one so maybe it fixed it. if it happens again im not going to waste more time with it and just get a new card.
