Ok, so I just got Oblivion for my PC, and at first, I was surprised that the textures, graphics, and all around resolution were horrible. I changed the resolution of oblvion in the options menu to match my monitors, but now the game lags very very very badly, although it produces a nice picture. I'm running it on High with a 1440x900 resolution, and its also got a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE Graphics card, and I know that has a lot to do with it...So to end this horribly long winded question, what Video Card would be best to run on my computer, and is there anything else I an do to reduce this lag until i can buy a video card w/o reducing res.?
Unfortunately no, Oblivion is a demanding game and your graphics card is terrible. As for replacing your Graphics card, is your PC a prebuilt? (Dell, HP etc) because if it is, upgrading the GPU can potentially be a lengthy procedure.

I think that the model is an HP Pavilion a6200n PC, but correct me if that's not even a model, and my price range would be $50- $150, but if there's one that's better that costs like $20 more then I'll pay the extra $20. But if there aren't any good ones in that price range, I'm willing to go up to $200.
hi i just looked on new egg for you and i just found this nvidia 9600GT you shoulld be able to play any game you want with that. this is the newest nvidia graphics card and you cant not get it for this price , but it but i am not sure on the make of this card because it is PNY and i have not heard much about them, but there is some review there you can read.here a link to the card. i looked on here beacuse you are in the US. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133216 and that computer you is a ver good pc. the spec are not much diffrent to what i have got. so you got a good all round pc. and as for your psu i would see how your system runs with the grapics card onece you get it. because you might already have a decent size psu in there.
Thanks Navskin, that helped quite a bit, but the only thing I'm concerned with is if i do need a new PSU...I did not see any requirements on that website you gave me, so if you know them, could you give them to me, if there are any? And, If I do need to replace my PSU, what would you suggest I get?
NO. NEVER install new hardware and 'see how it runs' if you've ever any doubt about the PSU. Most PSUs that come with systems don't crash if they get overloaded, they just go bang - sometimes with no incident, sometimes they can catch fire though, and it's not even that rare. Ok sammorris, thanks a whole lot for the heads up. I'm not exactly smart with the whole hardware thing, but I'm slowly learning. So, is that video card you gave me the link to able to run oblivion, and games like that, nicely? Considering, you said it was slow by today's standards...
The 8600GT a lot less than half the speed of cards that aren't THAT much more than it. It will be able to run oblivion relatively well, but for games like Crysis you will be running severely reduced detail settings. And before you ask, no, you should not be spending ANY less on the power supply.
I see, but if I wanted to get a newer, better card, then how would I determine what type of power source it needs? Do they ususally have a list of requirements for the card, that I could find?
They do, but they're usually overkill, as they need to ensure that cheap crappy PSUs will work with the cards. Up the budget, and you can get a better card. The Corsair VX 450W can handle pretty much ANY single card though, so I wouldn't worry about the PSU requirement.
Ok, so if I decided to just get that Corsair VX 450w , I could get any card I want? And, do you know what kind of PSU my computer came with? Its a HP Pavilion a6200n Desktop PC. And, I also noticed that there were other types of the Corsair VX 450w Power Supply, like some quiet and other models of it. Does it matter which one I would get as long as it had 450w?
Irrelevant really, it'll be crap. Most Packard Bell PCs of late come with FSP units, which while not bad quality, are very underpowered for this use. I guarantee you you'll have to replace it. As for which card you can use, any single core graphics card (so not the 9800GX2 or HD3870X2, but you can use 8800GTX, 9800GTX and so on)
@ sammorris i took your advice and poped down to aria and got myself an a new in the box 650watt psu. your are very right about what you say the psu. my computer runs a hell of a lot better now than it did do. thanks i think i learned a lesson.
But which PSU? If there's one point that has to be made, it's that you should always use a decent brand PSU. If you got a cheap noname one, I strongly recommend you take it back and get a proper one.
