Hello, I've converted an .avi to dvd-r format. The film (The Eye) has subtitles already imbedded, however because the video is too large I cannot get the subtitles on the TV screen.

    I have a wide screen television (14:9 / 16:9)?

I converted the film using TMPG, is there a way to alter the screen ratio without having to sit and wait another 25hours for the film to convert?

    Thank in advance

I dont think so. There might be a workaround but if it took 25 hours the first time the workaround would probably still take quite some time.

What was the source AVI resolution? Are you NTSC or PAL? Running through the wizard in TMPGEnc should be ok for most people however you may need to adjust the source aspect ratio .. play around with a quick 5 minute portion of the movie before you do the reencoding :)

In TMPGEnc, click Setting and click Advanced. Change "Video Arrange Method" to "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)". Even if you have all of your input and output aspect ratio settings correct, it doesnt matter because if the video arrange method is full screen, TMPGEnc will automasically stretch it!

is it cause the hardcoded subs is coded too near the bottom ? then you should use the video arrange method and custome size it as needed. sure there will be black bars, but can you do anything about it ?

Dela's response worked a treat, I adjusted the size on my TV and the picture amd subtitles fitted perfectly.
