Video quality improvement?

Hi, so i've managed to capture some old VHS movies onto my PC and now i'm going to convert and burn them onto DVD, but first is there any software out there that can improve the quality of the film, i.e. get rid of the grainyness ont he film. Like maybe Render (If that the word) the film??? Anyone know??? Thanks )

 

avisynth. look for filters, removegrain, etc

for a gui version, virtualdub, but not so much filters
