For purpose of reducing the size to fit on a DVD5, can either file VIDEO_TS.VOB or VTS_0X_0.VOB be trimmed, and still be player on a stand-alone player? If yes, how?

    Thanks.

yes, this is very much possible, but it means losing the menu and possibly some extras. What you do is open VTS_0x_0.IFO in IFOEDIT and go to Vob Extras. Do not select split to discs, but do select strip streams (we're not actually stripping any streams, just needs to copy all files to a new directory). Also, make sure "create new ifo files" is selected. Strip, selecting to keep all streams, to another folder. In that new folder, you will have a brand new DVD with just the movie, and no errors. Good luck.

all true, if all you want is the movie, you don't need any of the video_ts.xxx files. Don't forget to "get vts sectors" and then use the dvd play function in ifoedit to make sure things work. Using this method will make the movie start right away, also will remove the menu completely. If your vts file with the movie has extras like the fbi warning, you can strip those out also to make it smaller yet.

Is it possible to strip video_ts.vob en hold the vts_01_x.vob? so the dvd starts with the menu?

normally the menu is in VIDEO_TS.VOB, so no, I do not believe that is possible.
