Hi all, I recently was introduced to shrink, decrypter, and nero by a friend that used to give me copies of movies. Now I have the software and have been playing around for the past few weeks. I have sucessfully ripped a few DVD's. However I cant get them to play in my PS2. The copies he gave me, using the same programs have worked. And my copies play in my computer and in my other dvd player. What am I doing wrong?????

    Thanks!!

    hi

are the discs you use and your friend useing the same type? but not only this! are they bought from the same website / company?

as they could have different media ID's

use dvd identifier to see what yours and his are?

forgot to mention ps2 are very very picky on what discs they like!

yup - mine cant handle dvd-rw and i also think some cant handle +r but dont quote me on that.

i generally use ritek disks (usually the traxdata ones) and they always work for games. although i use my home cinema for movies, not my ps2...

i wouldnt go ARITAs tho... last batch i had (a long time ago) had all speckles on the disks... and now stuff doesnt run too well on them.

apparently traxdata ones are their A+ grade, although they do a tough one (or something like that - extreme?) which may be ok.

Decrypter will burn a PS2 game. Put the original game in click Mode/ISO Read, make sure it says "Number of layers:1." If it says 2 layers, that gets more difficult. Read the game. Put a blank DVDR in drive, click Mode/ISO Write, find MDS file and change burn speed to 1x.

Also, some PS2's won't play +R discs, mine won't, but most all of them will play -R discs. Avoid RW discs altogether for PS2.

and dont forget to check if the game needs to be patched to play. some games (e.g. fifa street and nba street 3) need patching to play backups now

even if the original is a DVD5? I haven't burned a PS2 game in a while, but GOW was a huge game (over 8GB). Rebuilt that with hit-or-miss results.

yes... check out the ps2 backup forums.

EA have got another type of protection now. so i would imagine others following suit.

also games like GT4 are dual layer and have checks so you cant actually rip and pack to dvd5 (yet) and since ps2s cant handle dvd+r dl then we gotta wait for dvd-r dl media to be released

GT4......there is a way to do it without a mod chip...but you have to have at least swap magic or equivilant...and it is burned to a DVD-5...(granted it is only 88%, but playable...arcade mode has been erased off of it)...back it up like you would a normal ps2 game...(CAUTION: THIS GAME ONLY HAS ABOUT 75%-90% SUCCESS RATE...but mostly it has to do with the speed that you are writing at)....all of these are with DVD Decrypter on default settings except for when marked to be changed
1)Open DVD Decrypter...click on "Tools" go to "settings" and make the following corrections:
a)open the tab marked "ISO Write Mode" and UNCHECK "Enable Burn-Proof" and "Lock Volume-Exclusive Access"
b)open the tab marked "CSS" and CHECK "Detect Mastering Errors" and "Force VOB CSS Flag Removal"
2)Then while DVD Decrypter is open Click on "Mode" and then ISO then Read and begin reading....
3)Once the disc is done reading you should have an iso made...(VERY IMPORTANT: WRITE ONLY AT 1X OR AT THE FASTEST 2x)Click on Mode and then ISO then Writeand begin writing you will then get an error stating something to fact that there is not enough space on the disk and asking if you would like to go ahead...click YES...at this point the iso will begin to write on your disc...the writing will only get to between 83%-88% and an error will pop up stating that it has (i think this is right "invalid address" just click YES and the disc will begin to finalize....
4)After completion you should have a working gt4 backup...

there have been problems brought up to the fact that it will get to the loading screen after the intro movie and the loading speed dial will turn red...there is a quick fix to this matter...reset your ps2 load the original disc into the ps2 and begin playing...at this point while game is still playing remove the original and replace with the backup and begin playing....save to a file on your memory card...now turn your ps2 off and load up your swap magic disc and put in your back up and begin playing or if you have a mod chip begin playing with your backup as normal...good luck
