" The Viper Team has released some specifications and pictures of their Viper GC Extreme modchip for the Nintendo GameCube. The chip will have 16Mbit of space on it and come with a USB adapter which you program the chip with and communicate with your PC via the GameCube's BBA port allowing for streaming data back and forth at USB 2.0 speeds! Exciting Viper Chip Updates!

It looks like the *official* Viper GC, website will open soon at Viper-Chip.com. For now it only contains a splash screen but that's not all, they are announcing a new Viper branded chip: Viper GC Extreme. Not much info about it yet, expect that it will be a truly 'next generation modchip'! Knowing what the Viper GC team achived before, we can't wait to see what innovations they'll bring in this time!

Any news about the Cobra BIOS (Viper GC BIOS) you might ask? Yes! A couple of days ago we had news from the Mental Cube guys. After a silent summer break they're hard at work on the new version of their BIOS: Cobra 2.0. It will feature kick-ass never-seen-before features! We know for sure it will run on Viper GC, but we can expect it to run on the new Viper GC Extreme as well ? Time will tell but, as usual, you'll be informed as soon as we know more about those exciting news!

Looks like qoob showed them how important on board flash memory is, considering the qoob Pro already has 16Mbit of flash.

What happened to the GCloader did they give up on it or something.Anyways yeah they both look like good modchips I think Qoob Pro and the Viper Extreme.I was kind of thinking they would release all these modchips they have been talking about, but not alot has happened except the Viper team has actually upgraded there chip.

L-Burna nice to see u again after all this time! Anyways the GCloader site still says its being made just like the new Viper Extreme site. I think they might be waiting to see where thier competition stands when the Viper is released.

    XD

The only reason there's going to be a Viper Extreme is because the Viper GC chip is inferior to the qoob Pro in every aspect at this point. The Viper has very little flash memory (2Mbit as I recall), which is only meant for the bios anyway. Many applications have to be streamed for Viper to even run. Viper Extreme is clearly Viper Team's response to qoob Pro, since the specs are so similar. They're just now catching up with the qoob Pro hardware wise, and their bios hasn't been up to par with qoob Pro for months.

On a side note, Viper Extreme's release could actually help qoob Pro users since it would force qoob Team to finish and release the 1.4 bios that was supposed to be available back in July.

Not a clue, since the qoobchip website doesn't have any information about it.

No, no it wouldn't. It'd only let you play backups on a modded machine. What else would you think it is meant for? o_O

just had a look at max console and says that there is a place taking pre orders for this chip when on the site that takes the preorders i noticed they sell the bba/ usb adapter aswell seperatley and it says the usb programer can be used with the normal viper mod chip as well, so can this mean they can rip the games with out the exteme mod chip and the normal viper or could this even be used with my qoob pro just buying the BBA usb conector seperatly if so that will kick ass.

Depends on the installation really. You just might have to if it requires different solder points.

If you're satisfied with the ViperGC though, don't even bother getting the Viper Extreme. No sense in upgrading unless you plan on using the 16Mbit of flash since the USB adapter supposedly works with ViperGC as well.

"The Viper GC Team has released images of the onboard flashing utility that comes pre-programmed on the modchip. This time around you will be able to flash it via it's USB cable and/or using a DVD which cuts down on the fuss when trying to get the original Viper GC flashed by the older interface. Lets not forget - you can also program the original Viper GC with the new USB interface!

Additionally, the Viper GC Extreme has been shipped from the factory to the wholesalers and should be trickling it's way down to retail stores shortly, but don't fret - my sample for review is in the mail. I'll have some pictures online before this weekend and then of course a full fledged ISO-420 Review sometime next week!"

Viper GC Extreme is shipping - Merry Christmas! (12/25/05)

The wait is over! The first batch of Viper GC Extreme was just sent to distributors, so it should reach them in a few days. Installation instructions and tools are coming very soon aswell.

Here are a few screenshots of the factory flashed BIOS. It allows you to reprogram your Viper GC Extreme from a DVD-R, so you don't ever need to use the USB programmer if you prefer to flash the chip from media.

The whole Viper Team wishes you a merry Christmas! (http://www.viper-chip.com/)

"I've just received the Viper GC Extreme GameCube modchip and will be updating you on the process of it's installation and first
impression of it's features shortly. Until then here is a picture of the Viper GC Extreme Chip and Programmer sitting on top of the box
    it came in.

Update: I've got the chip installed and working perfectly. Good news is that if you're upgrading from a normal Viper GC you wont need to
do anything other then switch the chip and relocate the flexwire for the programmer. More info to follow soon ..."
