Hey guys, I just ordered my viper yesterday from divineo and expect to be getting it soon. I just have some questions mainly regarding installation and a couple other things. I have a NTSC DOL-001; I bought my gamecube the first day it came out (maybe that'll help people know if I have rev. A or B).

I've looked everywhere and haven't found a good installation guide. All I've really seen are pictures of where to solder and what screws to take out.

Does anyone have any pictures of where to position the chip, removing heatsink screws, or anything else that would be useful? I've never installed a mod before but my dad has been soldering his whole life so I don't need help with that.

Also, I've heard that if you have the BBA you do not need to solder the bridge because the BBA makes the bridge. Is this true?

Also, I know that flashing the bios has been a big issue and I was wondering if it's still a problem with a lot of people. Does it work for most to flash the bios before the chip is installed?

Does anyone have a tutorial on modding the cube to fit full-size dvd-r's because I don't wanna spend all the money on minis and I've heard the full-size are more successful. And a picture of the tool to use to cut away the plastic would be very useful.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I know I have a lot of questions, but I haven't seen them answered anywhere.

Perhaps someone could do a good installation tutorial on here and get it stickied for people like me.

    Howdy!

Try this link http://forums.maxconsole.com/showthread.php?s=ae32a685aa9219589ced3a38796243b6&threadid=3254 ,and you'll find the schematics for mounting your viper chip and intructions for flashing it. It's really simple to install even for a novice. Just keep in mind not to overheat the IC. Be well grounded so you'll not risk to ESD chock your GC. And have a hair dryer or a heater gun in reach as it will ease the heatsink removal.
Concerning the BBA i think i'll work like you say if you use the anaconda dol file and stream that from your computer.
I didn't have any problems flashing the chip. I connected the 25 pin d-sub directly to my computer. If you have problems with a cable that is to long or no cabel at all it'll help i think. The procedure to do it is to have your gamcube with the chip mounted powered on before you flash the chip.

    Cheers!

cseknc, thanks for the info. unfortunately I already have those files and they're not all that helpful (the installation ones). I can see where the chip is supposed to be but is it really just supposed to sit there? It doesn't say anything about mounting it.

Come on guys, no one else has any answers to any of my questions?

My Viper just hangs right where the pictures show. You can put some double sided tape on if you want it to stay better.

For full size DVDs: don't put the top back on. I've been running my GC for two weeks without the top and it works fine. Yes, do the bridge on the board no matter what. I didn't remove the heatsink. I recommend AGAINST removing the heatsink, or even the screws! I just removed the top plate on my GC and soldered right there. I've been soldering for years, I do PS2s and xboxes all the time, so this was a breeze. The Y point is a bit hard with the heatsink in tact, but it's a piece of cake.

I flashed my viper before I even touched the gamecube. I flashed it using the programmer and nothing else. It was not installed in the GC or anything.
Just plug it in and go.

If you need more help, let me know and I could take some pictures if needed.

When you disassemble the cube you will see that the best place to fit the chip is where the fan mount is. I believe that every single one with a viper has it mounted there. Check out http://forum.cubehacks.com/viewtopic.php?t=6 for more pictures, the text is in Swedish.

    Hope this will help you!
