I am not 100% sure which chip is better....

It seems the QOOB has more features then the VIPER, but at the same time the VIPER apparently has a way better BIOS then the QOOB chip.

The viper is also the very first Gamecube mod, so it has that going for it as well :)

I suppose its really up to what you are looking for, as far as mod features go...

I suggest reading the specifications of the Viper and compare them with the QOOB PRO or QOOB SX and see which one sounds better to you...

Also as far as I know you can use the VIPER BIOS on the QOOB chips, so if you did choose the qoob you would still be able to take advantage of the better bios.

No, Qoob BIOS only works on Qoob and Cobra BIOS only works on Viper. Viper is easier to install, but besides that the plusses and minusses are all in the BIOSes:

With Cobra BIOS 1.2, you can load on certain programs to the memory by flashing, including an MP3 player, that may not be built into the BIOS. Still, right now Qoob beats Cobra because it has 100% fixed .DOL loading (Cobra still can't properly load most .DOL files) and can force games to run in video modes (for NTSC users who want to play PAL games that don't have the 60 Hz option).

    I OWN BOTH!!!
    I TESTED BOTH!!!

    SO...

    qoob case:

A bit harder to solder the wires. Especially the yelow needs extra care (and a bit shorter; see red wire).

It is a bit better than Viper, because it is the Viper idea, with better development! It deals the DREs a bit better too!

It has less support because all the home developers :p worked with Viper in the first place and prefer to keep on with it.

    Viper case:

Much easier to solder with no hard work!

It won the respect of all from the beginning!
    Guess why..

The newer bios treats better the errors. I bought it when v1.1 was out and had no problem with viper.

Everyone knows it and you can find answers easier for this chip.

Both chips are good! The BIOS of both became competitive for both!

    A few tips...

In any case you MUST use a GOOD burner (pioneer 108,..,nec35xx,..) on THE perfect dvd surfase of RITEKG04.

    DON'T use a soldering-iron more than 15 watt!!

No need to use full size DVDs(4.7GB)
Find miniDVDr made by Ritek with code G04.
In all the GC forums you will find info about them.
