Virtual Dub Error message

    Heres the message i got using Virtual Dub can anybody tell me what it means and what to do now.

    Couldnt locate decompressor for format 'XVID'(unknown) Virtual dub requires a video for windows compatible codec to decompress video directshow codec such as those used by windows media player are not suitable only direct stream copyis available for this video

    It means you don't have the XviD codec on your computer.
    Look in the Software section.

    Agreed. If one wants to 'play' with movies, one should have:
    - the DivX (at least the shareware version, to decompress) and Xvid codecs
    or
    - FFDShow (only to read AVIs, not to compress the movies into AVI form)

    I've got the same error as drusse11. I've got the ffdshow. Is that not enough to use virtualdub?

    It's got nothing to do with using virtualdub...it's got to do with whatever codec is in that crap movie you downloaded.
