am trying to join 2 avi files so i can convert to dvd. when i open the first avi in virtual dub i get this message " couldnt locate decompressor for format xvid(unknown). virtual dub requires a video for windows(vfw) compatible codec to decompress video. direct show codecs such as those used by windows media player are not suitable" . and thats as far as i get. am i missing some sort of codec? it plays in media player if thats any help.. thanks

Think that pretty much covers that.

I really wouldn't recommend installing a codec pack. You just need to install XviD or something that can handle the fourCC like ffdshow (need to have it enabled to handle XviD in the VfW decoder config).

You may already have ffdshow installed since you have dshow playback. Could be using say DivX though since it can decode XviD via dshow, but doesn't via VfW.
