After successfully using VirtualDub to sync the audio with the video, and then amplifying the audio, I'm left with a file 3x greater than the original. I followed the instructions to generate a stats file, and specified a filesize (800Mb) on the compression dropdown in the 2Pass-2nd Pass, but still wind up with an avi of 2.5Gb. Any suggestions, or better instructions. PS The VLC forum is down at the moment. Thanks.

To change the audio volume, you have to select 'Audio' => 'Full processing Mode'.
In full processing mode, you either have to select a compression (like mp3 or leave the audio uncompressed - which means the output file gets bigger.
