Hi.. I'm new to this program. When I open the video I want to synch with my subs, I get this message:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as
those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

Can someone please help me out. Thank you very much.

That would be the equiv of carpet bombing. All you need to install is XviD.

I was able to finally open the video in VirtualDub. Thank you for the contributions. But now, I've gotten a new message saying:

VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better quality. This may introduce up to 23721 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate 125.7 ‡ 16.4 kbps)

When I tried to preview the file with the synched subtitles, the audio comes out way ahead the video stream. I need help again. What should I do? Thank you very much again.

Follow the advice or use VirtualDubMod instead.
