    In regards to
    in Guides and Articles
    (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/virtualdub_join_avi.cfm)
    I have
    installed which includes:

I am Simply trying to join 2 .avi (XVID) files together into 1 seamless file in order to upload onto ConvertXToDVD and put on a disc with 1 menu title. What am I missing? Do I have to secect a something as a preference or something? Is there a simpler/better program to use? The files are quite large each (720mb each) as they have been obiously split by the user that uploaded them as a torrent on a torrent site. PLEASE HELP WITH THE DECOMPRESSOR ISSUE OR ANY SUGESTIONS TO SIMPLER PROGRAMS USED TO JOIN LARGER XVID FILES INTO 1 FILE...THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE

Thank You So Much DVDback23 for your Timely Response and Brilliant Soulution to my [bold]EXTREEMLY[/bold] Frustrating Dilema...That codec pak was [bold]AMAZING[/bold] to say the least (I will surely pass it on to all those In need !!! It worked like a charm....however now I have the enivitably forseen issue I was dreading...for some reason the two files [bold]"audio streams do not share a common sampling rate"
    [/bold]
    eg:first stream: 0000352e/00000001 = 13614.00000 samples/sec
    and 2nd stream: 0000335d/00000001 = 13149.00000 samples/sec

This is the case of two seperate items I have tried that have both previously been split into 2 .avi files.

Which I believe prevents me from simply [bold]Appending the AVI Segments[/bold] without having to do any re-encoding. Am I Correct??? So What Now? Any Ideas??? Can I still Join the two split .avi files ???

Ohh I also want to mention that when opening these .avi files the following message appears:
Not sure what my best options are here, Advice? Is Appending the Segments Out? What should I do? Can this program still be effective or reasonably applied to join the two files?

There is un updated version of this pack here
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

    and for your other problem
open virtual dub load your first avi using file open now goto audio select full processing mode under compression make sure it is set to no compresion PCM now goto file and select save wave name it and hit save once your wave is saved then goto audio select wav audio a file manager will appear that will let you select your new audio source(the file you just created)
now wether you apply compression or not is up to you and how much hdd space you have availble usually you will need about .5gb per minute for a downloaded movie if you save as an uncompressed avi to apply compression I would recommend using the same compression as the original avi goto video select full processing mode then goto compression and select your type now goto file and save avi
Now repeat for the second avi
the new avis now have the same sampling rate

    bobby,
Glad you got it to work :)
Here is my solution to your 2nd dilemna, quick and not a lot of HDD space nedded ;)
Open Virtual Dub. Open the first .avi and set video compression to "direct stream copy" and audio to "full processing mode". Now go and save .avi as whatever you want it to be called. Delete the original avi, u wont need it anymore. Now go ahead and do the same for the second .avi. When it is done, you will be able to merge them as they will have matching audio sample rates. Very quick and painless. ;)

    Enjoy!

[bold]WOW THAT WORKED GREAT!!! YOU GUY'S ARE THE BEST :)[/bold] My thanks goes out too both DVDback23 and Philraz for your Super Fast responses and Indept Soulutions!!! I dont know what I woulda done without Ya !!! [bold]So this is how a well oiled forum is susposed to work....Fantastic!!![/bold] I now have a perfectly seamless .avi file with no loss of quality from my original split .avi files and a better working knowledge of codec's, sample rates, and especially VirtualDUB...I will surely pass the knowledge on to all those I come accross in need of joining split files (and there's a whole lot of them...lol). [bold] My only concern now is if there is a recomended way to not have the audio file part of the joined .avi so large (like twice that of the video) resulting in two 700 mb original files once merged becoming approx. 3.15 GB??? Maybe compression settings for just the new audio?[/bold] If not this still worked Fabulous and Many Praises to you both!!!

This thread was very helpful, thanks.

This is the method i used:
"Here is my solution to your 2nd dilemna, quick and not a lot of HDD space nedded ;)

My original 2 avi files were 700mb each. after using the abovementioned method, they are now 1.5 gb each in size.

Is there a way to join these 2 avi files without gaining So Much Size?
    Thanks guys.
